‘Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie’ Gets Its Rotten Tomatoes Score, Here’s the Verdict

PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie is getting a mostly positive response from critics ahead of its theatrical release, with the animated sequel currently holding an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 11 reviews.

The film is scheduled to hit theaters on Aug. 14 and brings the popular pups into a much bigger adventure. This time, the team ends up on a mysterious island filled with dinosaurs after their ship is caught in a storm.

While the movie is clearly aimed at younger audiences and families, early reviews suggest that some critics have found more to enjoy than just the colorful animation and dinosaur action.

Several reviewers have praised the movie for mixing humor, heart and simple lessons about teamwork and growing up.

M.N. Miller of FandomWire gave the film a 7/10 and described it as a fun and emotional adventure. In his review, Miller praised the movie for being visually appealing while also giving young viewers a positive message.

He wrote that PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie is “fun, empathetic, and visually appealing” and said it teaches the value of becoming a pup who never gives up. Tessa Smith of Mama’s Geeky was also impressed by the family-friendly approach. Her review gave the movie a fresh score and praised its mix of comedy and emotion.

“Packed with heart, laughs, and stunning visuals, it’s a roaring success for the whole family,” Smith wrote.

Carla Hay of Culture Mix also gave the sequel a fresh review. She called it an entertaining animated follow-up and pointed to some of the new characters and story elements as highlights.

Hay wrote that the movie is “better than the worst Jurassic Park movies” while praising the dinosaur-filled setting. She also mentioned the introduction of a baby T-Rex and a wheelchair-using dog as memorable parts of the film.

Courtney Howard of Fresh Fiction gave the movie a B+ and liked the way the story continues to build the characters and their individual backgrounds.

Howard said the film leaves room for more adventures and praised its message about dealing with challenges as a group.

“We can only hope for continuing adventures to transpire to learn more of the individual backstories of these canine avengers and the virtues of overcoming difficulties as a community,” Howard wrote.

Not every critic has been impressed, however. William Bibbiani of TheWrap gave the movie a Rotten score and took a much more negative view of its approach.

Bibbiani compared the film to the kind of children’s entertainment imagined in the dystopian world of RoboCop, suggesting that the movie’s style and commercial nature did not work for him.

Still, the overall early reaction remains positive, with four of the reviews currently highlighted by Rotten Tomatoes giving the movie a Fresh score.

The story follows the PAW Patrol pups after they crash-land on an island filled with dinosaurs. They soon meet Rex, another pup who has been stranded there for years and knows the island better than anyone. Their adventure becomes even more dangerous when Mayor Humdinger starts mining the island for its resources and accidentally triggers a dormant volcano.

For families looking for a new animated movie this summer, the early reviews suggest PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie could be a solid choice. With an 82% Rotten Tomatoes score so far, critics appear to be responding well to its mix of comedy, adventure, colorful animation and positive messages, even if there are some clear disagreements about the movie’s overall appeal.
