‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Casts Rick Flag Sr, Connecting the show With ‘Creature Commandos’
One notable project will be transferred from DCEU into the newly established DCU, and that’s ‘Peacemaker.’ ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 was already confirmed to be in development when Gunn clarified that the show will be canon to the DCU and that he will make it work in a way that is not confusing for the fans at all, and that the transition between DCEU and DCU at least as far as ‘Peacemaker’ is concerned will be as smooth as possible.
Now, Gunn went one step further by connecting the upcoming ‘Peacemaker’ season 2 with a highly-awaited animated project ‘Creature Commandos’ that’s supposed to be released this year.
Frank Grillo was cast as Rick Flag Sr. in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2, after already being confirmed to voice the character for the animated show. This aligns with what Gunn said back when he was presenting the DCU, that he would like for the voice actors to play themselves in live-action projects as well.
Rick Flag Sr. was originally the leader of the Suicide Squadron during WWII. This squadron, as the name insinuates, was filled with “expendable” criminals who committed felonies and were now destined to take part in the most dangerous missions imaginable. Rick Flag Sr. led the Suicide Squadron to glory, managing to hammer in some discipline into the most hardened criminals. Due to this, after the war, he was designated to lead the so-called Task Force X, a special Task Force that dealt with superhuman and supernatural affairs.
Frank Grillo is certainly not a stranger to superhero projects. Some of his notable film roles include portraying Sergeant Leo Barnes in “The Purge: Anarchy” and its sequels, Brock Rumlow / Crossbones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Captain America: Civil War,” and Big Daddy in “The Purge: Election Year.”
On television, Grillo has appeared in series such as “Prison Break,” “The Gates,” and “Kingdom,” where he played the lead role of Alvey Kulina. He’s also known for his role as Billy Russo / Jigsaw in the Netflix series “Marvel’s The Punisher.”
