PS5 Game ‘Spider-Man 2’ Gets an Official Release Date
After almost five years of waiting, we finally know when we’re going to play Insomniac’s anticipated video game ‘Spider-Man 2.‘ The original ‘Spider-Man’ video game developed by Insomniac Games was released in September 2018, exclusively for PS4. The game received acclaim for its graphics, narrative, characterization, and combat, although it received some criticism for the lack of innovation in its open-world design. The original game is the best-selling PS4 video game, with 20 million copies sold.
A spin-off follow-up to the original game — ‘Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ — was released for both PS4 and PS5 in November 2020. The game was partially inspired by the acclaimed movie ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,’ which recently got its sequel. The game received a positive response, although it was deemed inferior to the original. Both of these games were released for PC last year, and the full sequel — ‘Spider-Man 2’ — is finally arriving this Fall.
‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’ finally has a release date!
At the Summer Game Fest event, it was officially revealed that ‘Spider-Man 2’ will be released exclusively for PS5 on October 20, 2023. Pre-orders are set to open on June 16, and the game will be available in Standard, Digital Deluxe, and Collector’s Edition.
The game’s Standard Edition will cost $70, and Digital Deluxe Edition will cost $10 more but will also include ten unique outfits and two additional skill points. The Collector’s Edition will cost $230, including the Venom statue fighting Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
The original game introduced Peter Parker’s Spider-Man as an older and more experienced crime-fighting Web-slinger. Miles Morales was also featured in the original game, setting up his story for his own spin-off, in which Miles also became Spider-Man. Now, both Spider-Men will team up against a new set of villains, including Venom (who won’t be Eddie Brock), Kraven the Hunter, and Lizard.
Doctor Octopus was the main villain of the original ‘Spider-Man’ game, with Sinister Six as supporting villains. The game also featured some other known characters, such as Black Cat, Silver Sable, and Taskmaster. The upcoming sequel is expected to include even more characters from the Spider-Man lore. The game will also feature a much bigger map and a lot of other innovations.
