Reed Richards’ Secret Blackboard From The ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Shanghai Exhibit Has Fans Losing Their Minds

Marvel Studios has kept a tight lid on plot details for its next mega crossover for the better part of two years, leaving fans to piece together clues from scattered trailers and brief character cameos. That carefully guarded silence finally started cracking this week as the studio began pulling back the curtain in a very public way.

The stage for that reveal turned out to be an unexpected one. Rather than debuting new footage at a major American convention, Marvel Studios chose the Shanghai Expo as the site for its first real-world look at physical sets and props built for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ giving fans in China the earliest tangible glimpse of the film ahead of its December release.

Among the props on display, one has managed to send fans into a frenzy online. A high definition image of Reed Richards’ blackboard from the exhibit reveals the character working through calculations tied to world collision energy, alongside plans for cannons positioned across multiple universes designed to stop cosmic collisions before they happen.

The blackboard offers one of the most concrete hints yet at how the film plans to handle its central multiversal threat, tying directly into Reed Richards’ established role as the scientific mind trying to get ahead of the incursions before they destroy entire realities. Pedro Pascal reprises the role of Reed Richards for the film, continuing his performance from earlier in the franchise.

The blackboard is only one piece of a much larger exhibition that opened to the public on July 11 at the Shanghai Expo. The booth also includes a full recreation of Doctor Doom’s throne room, a detail that had actually circulated online months earlier as leaked images many assumed at the time were AI-generated fakes, only for the Shanghai display to confirm those earlier photos were the real deal all along.

Beyond the throne room, the exhibition features a detailed recreation of the X-Mansion, complete with Professor X’s wheelchair and Magneto’s chair positioned inside the room that the two characters have famously shared throughout X-Men lore. Additional banners scattered throughout the booth reference other major locations expected to appear in the film, including the Baxter Building, Wakanda, and Avengers Headquarters.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is on hand in Shanghai for the event, and he is scheduled to take the main stage at noon on the second day of the exhibition for a twenty five minute presentation. That segment will reportedly include behind the scenes footage from the production, followed by an interactive question and answer session with attendees.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, marking the duo’s return to the franchise after helming ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ The film centers on heroes from three separate universes set on a collision course against a shared existential threat, pulling together an ensemble that spans the MCU, the X-Men films, and the Fantastic Four, including Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr, and Channing Tatum as Gambit.

With the Shanghai Expo booth now open and a Comic Con panel still on the horizon later this month, Marvel appears to be shifting into a far more public phase of its rollout after months of relative secrecy. Details about the plot have remained scarce throughout production, though the studio has hinted that the story draws inspiration from multiple classic Secret Wars comic arcs.

Are Reed Richards’ multiversal calculations the biggest clue yet about the plot of Avengers: Doomsday?

For a franchise that has kept fans guessing since Robert Downey Jr’s surprise return as Doctor Doom was first revealed, this wave of promotion suggests the studio is finally ready to start answering some of the questions it has spent years building up. Between Reed Richards’ blackboard, the confirmed throne room, and Feige’s upcoming stage appearance, this is shaping up to be one of the most revealing weeks yet for the film’s marketing campaign.
