Wanda Maximoff is still one of the most talked-about characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even though her fate has been uncertain for years. The last time audiences saw her, she appeared to die when Mount Wundagore collapsed in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Still, many fans never believed that was the end. Given Wanda’s reality-warping powers, being taken out by falling rocks never felt final.

Interest in her return grew even stronger after the 2024 Disney+ series Agatha All Along. That show explored deeper layers of magic in the MCU and reopened the door for characters tied closely to Wanda’s story. Since then, calls for the Scarlet Witch to come back have only gotten louder.

According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios is now moving ahead with a solo Scarlet Witch movie. Richtman, who has a long track record of reporting on early Marvel developments, claims the project is being shaped as part of the upcoming Mutant Saga. This would be a major shift for the character and one that lines up closely with her comic book history, where Wanda is famously connected to Magneto and mutantkind.

The timing of this report is important. Wanda’s son, Wiccan, has already appeared in the MCU, and Marvel is currently developing a White Vision solo series that is expected to arrive in 2026. Together, these projects suggest that Marvel is slowly rebuilding Wanda’s corner of the universe rather than leaving her story unfinished.

Elizabeth Olsen has also made it clear that she wants to return. During a public conversation at the 2025 Hamptons International Film Festival, held at the Sag Harbor Cinema, Olsen spoke openly about what the role still means to her after more than ten years.

It is something that I love, and it’s something I always want to return to, Olsen said. I think the thing that’s been so special about the last five years is I’ve gotten to do so much with the character that I never thought I would. There are still character through lines that have happened in the comics that I’d love to do that I think fans also want to.

Olsen first appeared as Wanda in 2015 and has played the character through many major changes. Wanda started as a troubled recruit, became a key Avenger, and later turned into a broken and dangerous figure driven by grief. While some fans were divided by her darker turn in Multiverse of Madness, Olsen has consistently defended Wanda as an emotional and layered character.

At the same event, she also talked about the idea of superhero fatigue. While she understands that audiences can feel overwhelmed by big franchises, she explained that being part of the MCU offers something rare for actors.

Some people have ongoing television series that they get to return to. Very few, I feel like, get to be a part of franchises that, I know we might culturally get a little bit exhausted by, but there is something about them that becomes very familial, Olsen said. There’s nothing else really like it, and I don’t know that I’ll have that again unless it’s for an ongoing show. I do like that kind of consistency. It feels good. I mean, job security feels nice — I think we can all agree on that.

She also admitted that joining Marvel was intimidating at first. Looking back now, she says the experience has been deeply rewarding, especially as Wanda became more important to the larger story.

It’s really fruitful, and the stories have only gotten better for me, my character. I really enjoyed it, she added.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has fueled speculation as well. In multiple interviews throughout late 2024 and 2025, Feige hinted that Wanda’s story is far from over. He noted that many major comic storylines tied to the Scarlet Witch have not yet been adapted and suggested that the Mutant Saga would be a good place to explore them. While he has not confirmed a release date, rumors point to a possible 2026 or 2027 window for the solo film.

Outside of Marvel, Olsen has been keeping busy with smaller, more personal projects. She recently appeared in the A24 film Eternity and the drama His Three Daughters, earning strong praise for her performances. Even so, her comments make it clear that the MCU still holds a special place for her.

If Daniel Richtman’s report proves accurate, Wanda Maximoff’s apparent death was never meant to be the end. Instead, it may have been a pause before a much larger return, one that could place the Scarlet Witch at the center of Marvel’s next major era.
