Robert Pattinson Praises Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Completely Selfless’ Move to Help Finish ‘The Batman Part II’
Few sequels have had as long and winding a road as ‘The Batman Part II.’ Fans first met Robert Pattinson’s brooding Bruce Wayne in 2022, and the follow-up has since faced multiple delays that pushed the expected release date from last October to February 2028. Now the film has hit one of the most human hurdles in a production’s life.
Earlier this month, Warner Bros. announced that production in London was temporarily paused so director Matt Reeves could focus on a family matter. The studio said Reeves had the full support of DC Studios. Soon after, Steven Soderbergh stepped forward to help.
Now Pattinson has weighed in on the change. Speaking to GamesRadar+, the star said he is thrilled that Soderbergh is helping finish the film, and he revealed that he is due back on set within days.
Reeves stepped away to attend to an ongoing family matter, and the studio has not shared further details. DC Studios said that Soderbergh, as an admirer of Reeves’ work, approached him and will step in to help complete the final weeks of principal photography. Reports at the time said six or seven weeks of shooting remained, and that Reeves was believed to have completed around two-thirds of the film.
Soderbergh, the director behind ‘Ocean’s Eleven,’ ‘Magic Mike’ and ‘Traffic,’ described his goal as generating footage that integrates seamlessly with what has already been shot, so that Reeves can properly finish his film. In other words, he is not there to put his own stamp on the movie.
Pattinson spoke to GamesRadar+ while promoting his latest release, ‘Primetime.’ He said he is very happy that Soderbergh has come on to help Reeves, and called the gesture incredibly generous and “completely selfless.” He added that Soderbergh is doing it in the loveliest way.
The actor explained that Reeves had put so much work into the script and that the production is almost done. For someone to arrive and say they want to help, working in conjunction with Reeves to get the movie to the edit, is a rare thing. Having a filmmaker as talented as Soderbergh do it, he said, is great.
Asked when cameras would roll again, Pattinson said he thinks the production is already underway and that he is starting in a couple of days. That suggests the break was short and the plan is to keep momentum. Second unit shooting had also continued during the pause.
For fans who worried about the film’s future, that timeline is reassuring. It signals that the production is moving forward without losing much time.
Headlines about the situation have sometimes used the word exit, but Reeves has been clear that he is not going anywhere. He wrote on social media that he is not leaving ‘The Batman Part II’ and thanked Soderbergh for coming to his aid to help finish principal photography. DC Studios co-chief James Gunn said on Threads that Reeves is still the director and always will be.
According to reports, Reeves will stay in contact with Soderbergh throughout the remainder of the shoot and return to oversee post-production when he is ready. The studio has also rallied around him, and he remains a producer on ‘Clayface,’ which opened this weekend.
‘The Batman Part II’ is still dated for February 18, 2028. Sources have said it is too early to know whether the pause will affect that date, although having Soderbergh on board suggests the goal is to keep things on track. The film has already seen several delays, so any further slip would be a blow to fans.
For now, the signs look positive. The star is on board, the director is supportive, and a veteran filmmaker with a reputation for efficiency is handling the final stretch.
Much of the reaction has focused on the care shown to Reeves. Big-budget sequels often feel like machines, but this story is a reminder that people make them, and that people sometimes need help. Pattinson’s warm words echo that sentiment.
If everything goes to plan, the film will reach theaters as the vision Reeves set out to make. That, more than any schedule, is what fans are waiting for.
