Rose Byrne, 46, Wows in Curve-Hugging Cutout Gown at Spirit Awards
Rose Byrne stole the spotlight at the 41st Annual Film Independent Spirit Awards in Hollywood this past Sunday. The 46-year-old Australian actress looked incredible in a black gown that hugged her figure, featuring a bold midriff cutout and bright layers of blue, yellow, and green.
She paired the look with a sleek middle-parted updo and smoky eye makeup. Byrne joined other stars on the red carpet, including Kaia Gerber and Kirsten Dunst, at the glamorous event.
The night was a big win for Byrne, who took home the award for Best Lead Performance for her role in the psychological dramedy If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. The film tells the story of a mother on the edge of a breakdown, and it has been a career-changing project for Byrne since it came out late last year.
While accepting her trophy, she said that her character Linda “really could only exist in an independent film because of how fierce and unpolished she is.” Byrne’s performance as a mother struggling with a sick child and an absent husband has earned her widespread praise.
She also won her first Golden Globe in January for the role. At the ceremony, she joked with the audience that her partner Bobby Cannavale couldn’t attend because he was “buying a bearded dragon at a reptile expo.”

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Byrne shared that the film started on a very small scale. “We shot this movie in 25 days for like $8.50!” she said. She added that she knew the script was special but never expected it to receive so much attention. Byrne also admitted that the role pushed her to new limits.
She said it required her to be “stretched” in ways she hadn’t experienced before, moving far beyond her comedic work in films like Bridesmaids. Besides her award-winning role as Linda, Byrne has been busy with other projects. She recently finished filming the drama Tow, playing a homeless woman fighting a corrupt towing company.
She will also star in the upcoming Peacock series The Good Daughter, alongside The White Lotus breakout Meghann Fahy. Fans can expect her to return for season two of Apple TV+’s Platonic, reuniting with Seth Rogen for more chaotic comedy. Between filming and awards season, Byrne is also preparing for her first-ever Best Actress nomination at the Oscars.
She has been recognized at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and was named Hasty Pudding’s Woman of the Year, showing that she is now firmly in a new tier of Hollywood stardom. Even with her busy schedule, Byrne stays grounded. She often talks about how challenging but rewarding it is to balance a high-profile career with motherhood.
