MCU has quite a slate of movies coming up, even though Marvel Studios has hit a rough patch with the last couple of projects. There have been talks about releasing fewer projects, as fans are definitely becoming tired of shows and movies of lower quality; still, if one character always managed to drag people to movies, it’s Spider-Man, by far the most profitable Marvel franchise, no matter the product you’re looking at.
On August 20, 2019, it was reported that the fourth Spider-Man film was in development alongside ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ Amy Pascal confirmed on November 29, 2021, that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios would develop more Spider-Man films, starting with a fourth one, marking the beginning of a new trilogy.
Kevin Feige officially confirmed the fourth Spider-Man film’s active development on December 18, 2021. On December 21, 2022, Sony Pictures’ Tom Rothman confirmed the film was still in progress.
In a February 14, 2023, Entertainment Weekly interview, Kevin Feige shared that the film’s story was finalized, and the scriptwriting had commenced. However, on May 31, 2023, Amy Pascal mentioned that the film’s development had paused due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, with plans to resume post-strike resolution.
Now that the strike has been over for several months, we can assume that the development has resumed after all, and some rumors have started to come up to the surface. According to Daniel Richtman, reputable leaker and scooper, there are plans to include Kingpin in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4,’ and Vincent D’Onofrio is in talks to join alongside the rest of the secret cast.
This is not as surprising considering that Kingpin is a fan-favorite character who seems to have a bright future in the MCU. D’Onofrio’s Kingpin was so far included in the recently released ‘Echo.’ He is also set to appear ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ reprising his role as the crime king of New York, this time as a mayor if the ‘Echo’ post-credit scene is to be believed.
This also aligns with the recent rumors that ‘Spider-Man 4’ will include more street-level superheroes and villains. On the other hand, five days ago, in an interview with Comicbook.com, D’Onforio explained that he hasn’t gotten the call yet but is open to the idea of appearing in ‘Spider-Man 4’
I think if the powers that be want that to happen then it will happen, you know? I think there certainly hasn’t been any kind of talk that it’s not gonna happen. I mean, to me that’s the direction that we should go in … But who knows? You know, you get these calls and they’re like, ‘Oh we’re doing this now.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, okay.’ You know, it’s like that.
Based on everything, we’re definitely going see more of the Kingping in the future; what do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
