Sadie Sink Finally Reveals Which Character She Is Playing in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has spent the better part of a year running one of the most tightly guarded mystery boxes in recent Marvel history. Sony and Marvel Studios have let trailers, cast interviews, and set photos trickle out slowly, but one central question has refused to go away no matter how much footage gets released. With the film’s July 31 theatrical release closing in, the marketing rollout finally started turning up the pressure this week.

Recent trailers have already confirmed plenty about Peter Parker’s next chapter. Peter is shown mutating, meaning he no longer relies on synthetic web shooters and his webs now come directly from his own evolving DNA. That footage also folded in Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, and a masked villain who appears able to hop between minds through some form of telepathic control.

That is the backdrop against which the official Spider-Man Movie account on X shared a new clip on July 22, promising fans it was finally time for the big reveal. The video features Sadie Sink beginning to explain her long mysterious character, only for a spider web graphic to slam over her mouth mid sentence, cutting her off right as she starts to say her own name and the word “play.”

The post has already pulled in nearly 964,000 views, a sign that Sink’s casting remains one of the most talked about unknowns heading into release. Fans immediately zeroed in on the gray sweater she wears in the clip, reading it as another not so subtle nod toward Jean Grey, whose muted knitwear has become something of a visual shorthand in the ongoing fan theorizing.

The Jean Grey theory is hardly new. Guesses about Sink’s role have ranged from Spider-Girl to Firestar to Gwen Stacy over the months since her casting first surfaced, with her natural red hair fueling much of the speculation no matter which name fans land on.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton has done little to calm the chatter. Speaking with Nerdtropolis, he suggested the film is hiding surprises well beyond Sink’s identity, promising that opening weekend audiences will have “a lot more than just Sadie Sink to talk about.” He also acknowledged the speculation around Sink’s casting directly, encouraging fans to simply discover the answers for themselves once the movie opens.

The film also stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Tramell Tillman, all reuniting under Cretton’s direction for a story that picks up where ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ left off. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ swings into theaters on July 31, and it looks like Marvel is not done teasing surprises before then.

Who do you think Sadie Sink is really playing, and what other twists do you think Cretton is hiding? Share your theories in the comments.
