Marvel press tours have a way of turning even the smallest photo drop into a full-blown news cycle, and the rollout for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has been no exception. With the film’s July 31 release date creeping closer, every new image of the cast gets picked apart for clues about a story Marvel has worked hard to keep under wraps.

Sadie Sink has quickly become one of the most talked-about parts of that promotional wave. The ‘Stranger Things’ star joined the film’s cast back in March 2025, and in the time since, Marvel and Sony have never confirmed exactly who she is playing, an unusual level of secrecy even by Marvel standards.

That mystery followed her into her latest round of press appearances, where new images showed Sink striking moody, editorial-style portraits ahead of the film’s release. The photos, shot in both color and black and white, continue a promotional pattern that has seen Sink turn up at stops across the world, from a red carpet appearance in Madrid to a fan event overseas, all while giving fans nothing concrete about her character.

The most persistent theory tying Sink to the film centers on Jean Grey, fueled by her red hair, leaked merchandise reportedly tied to her character, and Marvel’s broader plans to fold X-Men characters into the wider franchise. Set photos have also sparked an entirely different theory, with some fans speculating she could instead be playing Rachel Cole, a lesser-known Punisher ally from the comics, based on glimpses caught around Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle scenes.

Sink herself has stayed characteristically tight-lipped about the whole thing. Speaking to Nylon for a cover story about protecting franchise secrets, she said keeping quiet simply is not that hard, brushing off the idea that guarding her character’s identity has been any kind of struggle.

That same profile revealed just how secretive her casting process actually was. According to the outlet, Sink was offered the role without an audition due to her prior work with director Destin Daniel Cretton on 2017’s ‘The Glass Castle’, and she reportedly did not receive a script until she had already arrived in London to begin filming.

Reports from early test screenings have only added to the intrigue surrounding her role, with unnamed sources describing her performance as one of the more memorable parts of the film despite no official reviews having been published yet. That kind of buzz tends to snowball during a press cycle, and Sink’s continued presence at high profile promotional stops alongside Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon has kept her squarely in the conversation.

For now, fans will have to keep speculating. Marvel has shown no signs of breaking its silence before release, following a similar playbook to the secrecy that surrounded ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, where major reveals were withheld until audiences saw the film themselves.
