Sandra Bullock Just Teased the Wildest ‘Practical Magic 2’ Soundtrack Connection Yet

Nostalgia sequels live or die by whether they can recapture the specific magic that made audiences fall for the original in the first place, and few franchises understand that better than the Owens sisters’ witchy saga. Nearly three decades after the first film became a cult phenomenon, its return is leaning hard into one of the elements fans loved most: the music.

That connection between witchcraft and music has always run deep for this franchise, thanks in large part to Stevie Nicks, whose contributions to the original 1998 soundtrack helped cement the film’s dreamy, spellbound atmosphere. With ‘Practical Magic 2’ set to hit theaters September 11 starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman once again as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, fans have spent months speculating about whether Nicks might factor into the sequel’s musical identity too.

Bullock has now given fans a genuine reason to believe she might. The actress shared an Instagram story reposting a Rolling Stone clip from Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival, captioning it “Angel voices that are part of an upcoming film,” alongside footage of Rodrigo performing alongside Nicks onstage.

That performance took place Saturday, August 29, when Rodrigo brought Nicks out during her headlining set at the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival in Irvine, California, for a duet of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Landslide.’ The moment capped off a night that also saw Rodrigo perform alongside Sarah McLachlan and Alanis Morissette, closing out an event inspired by the late-Nineties Lilith Fair.

Bullock’s framing of the clip strongly suggests that some version of Rodrigo and Nicks’ vocals, whether from this specific performance or a separate studio recording, could be tied to ‘Practical Magic 2′ in some capacity. Given Nicks’ history with the franchise’s music and Rodrigo’s rapidly growing profile, pairing the two voices for the sequel would be a fitting nod to the original film’s musical legacy.

The ‘Landslide’ performance itself carried real emotional weight beyond any potential film tie-in. Rodrigo had teased the possibility of the duet with Nicks in the lead-up to the festival, telling press she was hoping to perform the song with her if the opportunity arose, and Saturday night delivered on that hope with the two sharing a dance together mid-performance.

Daisy Chain Fields, conceived and headlined by Rodrigo herself, raised a reported $20 million for nonprofits supporting women and girls throughout the course of the night. The lineup also featured Rodrigo’s tribute to Sarah McLachlan’s ‘Angel,’ which the pair dedicated to Dolly Parton following the country icon’s recent death, adding another layer of poignancy to an already momentous evening.

Whether Bullock’s tease points to an actual soundtrack placement or simply reflects her own excitement about the performance remains to be confirmed by Warner Bros. or the film’s music team.
