Sarah Michelle Gellar’s (48) Heartwarming Tribute to Freddie Prinze Jr on His 50th Birthday
Freddie Prinze Jr. celebrated a big milestone this past weekend, turning 50 on Sunday, March 8. His wife, Sarah Michelle Gellar, took to Instagram to mark the occasion with a sweet post that showed their playful and lasting connection.
The post included two candid photos. In one, the couple made funny faces, and in the other, Gellar planted a kiss on her husband’s cheek. She kept her caption simple but heartfelt, writing, “Happy Milestone Bday @realfreddieprinze.”
She added, “Age is simply the number of years the world has gotten to enjoy you. And no one has enjoyed you more than me.” Many Hollywood friends, including Lisa Rinna and Amanda Kloots, quickly sent their birthday wishes.
Freddie and Sarah’s story goes back to the late 1990s when they first met on the set of the horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer. They didn’t start dating right away, but eventually got engaged in 2001.
The couple married in September 2002 at an intimate ceremony in Mexico with close friends like Shannen Doherty in attendance. Over the years, they have managed to balance busy careers and family life. They worked together on projects like the live-action Scooby-Doo films.
They also welcomed two children: daughter Charlotte Grace in 2009 and son Rocky James in 2012. Freddie has spoken openly about the work it takes to make a marriage last. In an interview with Variety last year, he said, “Marriage is hard, no matter what business you’re in.
What works for us might not work for everyone else. We work at it. I’m not perfect. She’s not perfect. We piss each other off, but we respect one another.” Gellar has shared her own tips with humor. At the Star Search premiere earlier this year, she joked about the secret to their happy household: “Separate bathrooms. That’s what I always say.”
In recent years, Freddie has moved away from traditional acting and focused on his passions, like professional wrestling and cooking. He now hosts the podcast Wrestling with Freddie, where he dives deep into the wrestling world, drawing on his experience as a former WWE writer.
He’s also active in the gaming community and is working on several projects through his production company, creating scripts that mix high-stakes stories with different genres. Fans of his earlier romantic comedies can still catch interviews and retrospectives, but Freddie says he is more focused on the projects he’s making now than looking back at his teen-idol past.
Meanwhile, Sarah continues to act and executive-produce projects that highlight underrepresented voices in media. Through all the changes in their lives, Freddie and Sarah have stayed strong as a couple.
Their marriage, family life, and public displays of affection after more than 20 years together continue to connect with fans who grew up watching them in the early 2000s on their favourite shows and movies.
