Sebastian Stan Teases Just How Much Work Is Left on βThe Batman: Part II,β and It Sounds Brutal
Matt Reeves has been building out his vision for Gotham City at a deliberate pace since ‘The Batman‘ first hit theaters in 2022, and the long-awaited sequel has slowly been assembling one of the most stacked casts in the franchise’s history. Robert Pattinson is returning as the Caped Crusader, joined by familiar faces like Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell.
Among the newcomers generating the most buzz is Sebastian Stan, whose jump from over a decade as Marvel’s Winter Soldier into Reeves’ gritty DC universe has fans buzzing about which iconic villain he might be bringing to life. Reports have widely pointed to Stan taking on the role of Harvey Dent, though the actor himself has stayed cagey about confirming any specifics.
That secrecy hasn’t stopped Stan from offering a glimpse into just how much work he still has ahead of him. Speaking to ScreenRant, Stan was asked how much longer he has left filming ‘The Batman: Part II,’ and his blunt answer was that it’s “a very long time, yep,” adding it’s a long winter of work still ahead.
While Stan was simply describing his remaining workload on the film, the specific wording lands differently given what Reeves has already revealed about the sequel’s setting. Back in May, Reeves shared camera test images showing the Batmobile driving through snow, captioning the post with the tag “SnowTires.”
That reveal has already sparked plenty of fan speculation about whether the winter backdrop hints at a specific villain making their live-action debut, with names like Mr. Freeze floating around online discussions. Others have drawn comparisons to the snow-covered Gotham of Tim Burton’s ‘Batman Returns,’ though no snow-themed antagonist has been officially confirmed for the sequel at this point.
‘The Batman: Part II’ is bringing back Pattinson as Bruce Wayne alongside Wright’s James Gordon, Serkis’ Alfred Pennyworth, and Farrell’s Oswald “Oz” Cobb. Reeves is once again directing and co-writing the screenplay alongside Mattson Tomlin, keeping the creative team largely intact from the first film.
Stan is one of several major new additions to the cast, joined by Scarlett Johansson, Jayme Lawson, and Charles Dance. Production reportedly kicked off in June following camera tests, with filming already spotted taking place in Liverpool, England.
Stan has previously discussed feeling both excited and nervous heading into the project, noting he’s already met with hair and makeup teams as he prepares to take on the role. Whether or not he’s officially playing Harvey Dent remains unconfirmed by Stan himself, even as speculation around his casting continues to build.
‘The Batman: Part II’ is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027, giving fans plenty of time to speculate about that snowy Gotham setting before the film’s eventual release.
Do you think the snowy setting in The Batman: Part II hints at Mr. Freeze?
