Shay Mitchell (38) Brings ‘Baywatch’ Back to Life in Bold Red Swimsuit on the Beach Set
Shay Mitchell is stepping into a very different world from her days in Pretty Little Liars. Instead of secrets and drama in Rosewood, she is now spending her time on the sunny beaches of California for the new Baywatch revival.
The 38-year-old actress was recently seen filming in Venice Beach on Wednesday, March 18. She wasn’t just standing around either. Mitchell was doing action scenes, including jumping from a lifeguard tower straight into the sand. It made it clear she is fully involved in the show and not just playing it safe.
This new series is already in production, and Mitchell has a regular role. She plays a character named Trina, who has an interesting backstory. According to Deadline, Trina used to be a lawyer before changing her life completely.
The description says, “former lawyer who walked away from a top-tier firm to dedicate herself to lifeguarding full-time. Trina is the sharpest mind on Baywatch. Passionate and dedicated, she tends to follow her heart … even if she often uses her considerable intelligence to second-guess herself.”

The story of the show continues from the original series but focuses on a new generation. Variety shared more about the plot. It brings back Hobie Buchannon, who is now all grown up and leading the team.
As they explain, “The wild child Hobie Buchannon we all loved from the original series is now a Baywatch captain, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Mitch.” Things get more personal for him when his daughter suddenly appears.
The report adds, “Hobie’s world is turned upside down when Charlie, the daughter he never knew, shows up on his doorstep, eager to carry on the Buchannon family legacy and become a Baywatch lifeguard alongside her dad.”
Another familiar face is also returning. Cody Madison is now running a beachside hangout while still helping out as a lifeguard. As described, “OG heartthrob Cody Madison now runs The Shoreline, the unofficially official Baywatch bar-and-grill, and still puts on the red trunks for the occasional shift saving lives.”
The cast mixes well-known names and newer faces. Stephen Amell leads the show as Hobie, moving on from his superhero role in Arrow. He is joined by Jessica Belkin, Hassie Harrison, Noah Beck, and Brooks Nader.
Mitchell has stayed busy since her breakout role years ago. She appeared in shows like You and Dollface. Outside of acting, she also built her own travel brand, BÉIS, and even did voice work for Velma.
The new Baywatch series is being led by Matt Nix, who previously worked on Burn Notice. The goal is to keep the same mix of action and beach visuals that made the original so popular, while updating the story for today.
Filming is already underway, and more details about episodes and guest stars are expected soon. The show is planned to premiere on Fox later this year as part of their major lineup, showing the network is putting a lot of focus on bringing back classic hits in a new way.
