Sir Ian McKellen Is Not Retiring from Acting, Sparks Hopes for Magneto Return

Share:

At this point, Sir Ian McKellen is an acting legend. He has an extraordinary career spanning more than six decades, starting in the 1950s. His versatility has allowed him to excel in both classical theater and major film franchises.

Some of his most notable roles include Gandalf in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ franchise and Magneto in ‘X-Men’ franchise.

Despite health concerns in recent months, the actor confirmed several times that he is not retiring. Recently, he hinted at his return as Gandalf since there are several projects in the works in which the White Wizard will be present. The actor stated that he would like to return to the role if the health allows.

Now speaking to NPR the actor once again confirmed he is nowhere near retiring and used an interesting analogy to prove his point:

I’ll carry on until the knees give way or the memory gives way or the mind goes. There’s nothing else I’d rather do with my life than that. Much better to wear out than rust out, as they say,

Due to the analogy with rust, fans started debating whether we can expect McKellen to return as Magneto in the MCU:

Even though the actor is clearly too old to portray the character in the upcoming live-action X-Men reboot, this doesn’t rule out the fact that he can return as a variant in the upcoming ‘Secret Wars.’ ‘Secret Wars’ is already rumored to include close to a hundred characters, and while majority of them naturally won’t appear we would really love to see him portray the character one more time.

Patrick Stewart already showed up briefly in the MCU as Professor X in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ and maybe McKellen can appear as well in a similar manner.
