The second installment of the ‘Spider-Verse’ franchise — ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ — is now playing in theaters, gathering universal acclaim from critics and the audience. The movie is earning even more praise than its largely successful predecessor, and with one more movie on the way to conclude the trilogy, many fans already argue that ‘Spider-Verse’ could become one of the best comic book movie trilogies ever.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ ended on a cliffhanger that leads directly into a threequel. Thankfully, the third movie ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse‘ isn’t so far away, considering it’s set to release on March 29, 2024, so in less than a year. While it’s known that this franchise is also set to spawn a couple of spin-offs, one of them being focused on Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Woman, it looks like Miles Morales’ story was planned only for this main trilogy and the writers apparently have no plans to continue it any further once ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse‘ releases.

Miles Morales’ story will be concluded in ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse.’

In a recent interview for Entertainment Tonight, the screenwriters Phil Lord and Chris Miller talked about the second ’Spider-Verse’ and how they planned and developed Miles Morales’ story for this trilogy. When asked about Miles’ story beyond the trilogy, both writers confirmed that the threequel would wrap up Miles’ story for good.

“It is. It [Beyond the Spider-Verse] is the end of the Miles Morales trilogy. So, this whole thing is like working towards that. This obviously has its own complete film, with a beginning, middle, and end, and Miles starts in one place and ends in another. All the characters have an arc in this film, but that’s it for us. We’re so tired [laughs].”

Lord and Miller also confirmed that they’re producing ‘Silk: Spider Society’ and ‘Spider-Man Noir,’ two live-action TV shows that are in development for Amazon Prime Video, although the development is currently on hold due to the ongoing WGA strike. While we can certainly expect more movies from the ‘Spider-Verse’ franchise, it looks like those future movies won’t be centered on Miles. Or if Sony decides to make a fourth movie, it might be without Lord and Miller.

Two sequels have always been planned for 2018’s ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,’ although the initial plan was to call them ‘Across the Spider-Verse Part 1’ and ‘Across the Spider-Verse Part 2’ before the latter was retitled ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse.’

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller wrote ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ with Dave Callaham. Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson directed the movie. Starring Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Vélez, Jake Johnson, Jason Schwartzman, Issa Rae, Karan Soni, Shea Whigham, Greta Lee, Daniel Kaluuya, Mahershala Ali, Oscar Isaac, ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ is now playing in theaters worldwide.
