Spider-Man: Brand New Day is continuing its incredible run at the box office, with the Tom Holland-led Marvel movie breaking another major record. According to Sony Pictures, the film has officially earned the biggest first week ever at the domestic box office, reaching a milestone that puts it ahead of some of the biggest movies in Hollywood history.

The movie crossed $500 million in North America within its first seven days of release, becoming the fastest film ever to reach that number. It beat the previous record held by Avengers: Endgame, which reached the same milestone after eight days in theaters following its 2019 release.

The success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has continued at an impressive pace since opening weekend. The film quickly became one of the biggest theatrical launches ever, defeating Avengers: Endgame’s domestic opening weekend record. Sony confirmed that the movie opened with $360 million in North America, passing Endgame’s $357.1 million debut.

While Avengers: Endgame still holds the record for the biggest worldwide opening weekend, Brand New Day has been setting records of its own. The movie also achieved the biggest Thursday preview numbers and the highest Friday domestic total in history, giving Sony Pictures its strongest opening weekend ever.

The film’s global performance has been just as impressive. Sony announced that Spider-Man: Brand New Day crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide in only six days, making it the second-fastest movie ever to reach that number. Only Avengers: Endgame reached the milestone faster.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie continues the story of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker after the emotional events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film follows Peter as he tries to move forward while living a more isolated life without the people he once depended on. However, his attempt at a quieter existence is interrupted when a mysterious enemy begins hunting him.

The cast includes Zendaya as MJ, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. The film was produced by Marvel Studios and Amy Pascal, with a reported production budget of $225 million.

Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman also discussed the continued popularity of Holland and Zendaya during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He explained that their success comes from their talent and work ethic rather than simply their fame.

“They’re not popular because they’re popular,” Rothman said. “They’re popular because they’re talented, and they deserve their popularity. They’re lovely, decent, grounded, good-valued people, and they work really hard. So they’ve earned every ounce of their success.”

The strong box office results show that audiences remain highly interested in the Spider-Man franchise and its stars. With more competition arriving in theaters in the coming weeks, Sony expects the film to continue bringing in viewers as its theatrical run continues.

For Marvel and Sony, the success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day proves that Peter Parker remains one of the most powerful and popular characters in modern cinema. The movie’s record-breaking first week has already secured its place as one of the biggest superhero releases ever.
