‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Crosses $2 Billion And Broke Several Records Doing It
Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as Spider-Man has spent the past three weeks systematically rewriting box office history, and the records haven’t stopped falling since opening weekend. What started as the biggest domestic debut of all time has since snowballed into one of the fastest theatrical runs any film has ever put together, defying years of industry speculation about superhero fatigue.
That run began with a record-setting $360 million domestic opening and a stunning $932 million global debut, the second-largest worldwide opening ever behind only ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ The film also delivered the best preview haul in history with $72 million and the highest-grossing opening day ever recorded at $169.8 million, before crossing $1 billion worldwide in just six days, the second-fastest pace any movie has ever managed.
That trajectory has now carried ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ past $2 billion worldwide, officially surpassing the milestone after just three weekends in theaters. The film has grossed $785 million domestically and $1.23 billion overseas for a combined total of $2.022 billion, making it just the eighth movie in history to reach that benchmark and the second-fastest ever to get there, trailing only Endgame’s 11-day run in 2019.
That achievement also makes it the first solo superhero movie ever to cross $2 billion, since every other film in that exclusive club has either been an ensemble team-up or an entirely different genre altogether.
Reaching $2 billion also cements ‘Brand New Day’ as the highest-grossing comic book movie of the decade and the highest-grossing ‘Spider-Man’ film ever made, officially surpassing 2021’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ which topped out at $1.92 billion during its entire theatrical run without ever playing in China.

The film’s climb to $2 billion has been paved with milestone after milestone. ‘Brand New Day’ became the fastest movie ever to cross $400 million domestically after just four days, delivered the highest-grossing Monday in box office history with $47 million, and became the second-fastest film ever to reach $1 billion overseas alone.
China played a particularly outsized role in that international push, delivering the film’s single biggest overseas opening at $121 million. That strength abroad, combined with sustained domestic word of mouth and minimal direct competition in the weeks following release, allowed ‘Brand New Day’ to keep climbing well past where most fourth installments in a franchise typically plateau.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has repeatedly credited the character’s enduring appeal for the film’s success. He told Variety that while characters can be written about as reflecting changing tastes, none age and evolve across the decades quite like Marvel’s roster, and none better than Peter Parker specifically.
Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman struck a similarly celebratory tone during the film’s opening weekend, thanking the film’s cast, filmmakers, and marketing team for delivering what he called an exceptional distribution campaign behind the movie’s $360 million debut.
With ‘Brand New Day’ now firmly positioned among the highest-grossing films ever made, speculation continues to build around whether Holland will return for future MCU appearances, including possible cameos in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ later this year. For now, the film remains firmly in theaters and still climbing, leaving open the question of just how much higher its final global total might ultimately land before its run finally winds down.
