‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Just Joined an Extremely Exclusive $2 Billion Club
Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as Spider-Man has spent the past three weeks systematically rewriting box office history, and the records haven’t stopped falling since opening weekend. What started as the biggest domestic debut of all time has since snowballed into one of the fastest theatrical runs any film has ever put together, leaving industry analysts scrambling to keep pace with each new milestone.
That run began with a record-setting $360 million domestic opening and a stunning $932 million global debut, the second-largest worldwide opening ever behind only ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ From there, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ crossed the billion-dollar mark in just six days, also the second-fastest pace in box office history, before continuing to climb through records for the fastest $500 million and $700 million domestic totals along the way.
That trajectory has now carried the film into one of cinema’s most exclusive clubs. According to box office tracking, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ reached $2 billion worldwide in 19 days, making it the second-fastest film ever to hit that mark behind only ‘Avengers: Endgame’s’ 11-day run in 2019. The achievement puts Holland’s Spider-Man ahead of ‘Ne Zha 2,’ which took 33 days, and both ‘Avatar’ films, which needed 39 and 47 days respectively to reach the same milestone.
Only eight films in the history of cinema have ever crossed $2 billion at the worldwide box office, a list that includes ‘Avatar,’ ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ ‘Avatar: The Way of Water,’ ‘Titanic,’ ‘Ne Zha 2,’ ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’ ‘Brand New Day’ now joins that group as one of the fastest arrivals in the club’s history, trailing only Endgame’s unprecedented pace.
What makes the film’s box office dominance especially notable is that it’s arriving as the fourth entry in Holland’s Spider-Man series, a stage in most franchises where box office fatigue typically starts to set in. Instead, ‘Brand New Day’ has outperformed its own predecessor, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ which topped out at $1.92 billion during its entire theatrical run without ever playing in China. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Variety that he did not expect Endgame’s domestic opening record to be beaten, but that he couldn’t be happier it happened with the studio’s 38th MCU movie.

China’s box office performance for ‘Brand New Day’ has played a major role in that turnaround, with the country delivering the film’s single biggest overseas opening at $121 million. That kind of international strength, paired with sustained domestic word of mouth, has allowed the film to keep climbing well past where most sequels of its scale typically plateau.
With ‘Brand New Day’ now firmly positioned among the highest-grossing films ever made, speculation continues to build around whether Holland will return for future MCU appearances, including possible cameos in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ later this year or ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ in 2027. Neither Holland nor Marvel has confirmed those plans, though Holland has previously discussed having a clear vision for eventually passing the character on to another actor.
For now, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ remains firmly in theaters and still climbing, leaving open the question of just how much higher its final global total might ultimately land. With minimal direct competition remaining through the rest of the summer, box office watchers haven’t ruled out the film eventually threatening even loftier benchmarks before its run concludes.
