‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Is Expected to Obliterate Both Domestic and International Box Office Records

Marvel and Sony have spent nearly five years building toward Tom Holland’s return as Peter Parker, and the wait appears set to pay off in genuinely historic fashion. Every new box office projection released over the past several weeks has climbed higher than the last, turning what began as a strong but conservative early forecast into something that could rewrite the franchise’s own record books.

That momentum has continued right up until the film’s final stretch before release, with the latest numbers suggesting Sony and Marvel are staring down one of the biggest openings in franchise history. Given how much anticipation has already built around the film’s marketing rollout, these projections have quickly become one of the summer’s most closely watched storylines.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is now expected to gross $700 million at the global box office during its opening weekend alone, according to Portal Box Office. Domestically, the film is on track to debut somewhere between $260 million and $300 million, a range that would place it in direct competition with ‘No Way Home’s’ own domestic record of $260.1 million.

That kind of trajectory represents a massive jump from where projections started. Early estimates initially placed the film’s domestic opening closer to $180 to $190 million, before climbing steadily through the $212 to $255 million range and eventually settling into the $230 to $250 million territory that dominated headlines just weeks ago.

Looking at the franchise’s full box office history helps put this potential trajectory into perspective. Every prior Spider-Man film has posted increasingly massive worldwide totals, from ‘Spider-Man 2’s’ $795.9 million through ‘Far From Home’s’ $1.133 billion, all the way up to ‘No Way Home’s’ staggering $1.921 billion global haul.

Should ‘Brand New Day’ hit anywhere near its current projections, it would comfortably clear the billion-dollar mark and could realistically approach or even challenge that $2 billion benchmark set by ‘No Way Home.’ That kind of milestone would be especially significant given how rarely Marvel Studios has crossed ten figures in recent years, with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness topping out at $965 million as the closest recent attempt.

Presale data has already validated much of this optimism. The film posted the best first-day domestic presales of any release in five years, a record previously held by ‘No Way Home’ itself, with Fandango confirming it became the platform’s biggest first-day presale of 2026, outpacing even Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey.’

China’s involvement in this release cycle adds another significant variable compared to its predecessor. ‘No Way Home’ never played in Chinese theaters due to a controversial Statue of Liberty scene, cutting off access to one of the world’s largest markets. With that restriction lifted for ‘Brand New Day,’ reports indicate presales in China are already outpacing any other comic book movie since ‘Avengers: Endgame.’

All of this momentum is building toward a film that will not even have IMAX screens available domestically, since Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ currently holds exclusivity on the format through mid August. Achieving these kinds of numbers without that premium format advantage only underscores just how much raw demand exists for Peter Parker’s return.

With ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ set to swing into theaters July 31, these latest projections suggest Marvel and Sony could be looking at one of the biggest openings in box office history.
