‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Joins ‘Avatar’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in Box Office History’s Most Exclusive Club
Marvel badly needed a win after a rough 2025. ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ and ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ were commercial misses, and fans wondered whether the MCU had lost its box office swagger. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has answered that question loudly.
Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as Peter Parker has been breaking records since it opened on July 31. It debuted to $360M domestically, topping the $357.1M that ‘Avengers: Endgame’ took in on its opening weekend. It also posted a $932M global launch, the second-biggest ever behind the $1.2B debut of ‘Endgame’.
The run didn’t slow down. The film reached $2B globally after just 3 weekends, the second-fastest to get there after ‘Endgame’ did it in 11 days. It later overtook ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ as the highest-grossing domestic release of all time.
Now it has crossed another line. According to a post from box office tracker Luiz Fernando, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has become the third film in history to cross $2.5B worldwide. Its 10th weekend overseas brought in about $4M, a drop of just 35.5%, lifting the international total to $1.55B across 66 markets. Paired with $954.5M in the US, that puts the global total at $2.5B, with a final run of $2.52B projected.
Sony’s own count agrees. The studio reported a cumulative global total of $2.506B, made up of $955M domestic and $1.551B international. That puts the film behind only ‘Avengers: Endgame’ at $2.925B and ‘Avatar’ at $2.924B.

The list of milestones is long. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is now the highest-grossing Spider-Man film ever and the highest-grossing Sony release of all time. It is also the highest-grossing film of 2026, the highest-grossing film in the United States and Canada, and the third-highest-grossing film worldwide.
Weekly results kept stacking up as well. It topped the box office for its first 4 weekends, the first film to do so since ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’. It was also the fastest film to reach $700M (13 days), $800M (19 days) and $900M (36 days) domestically.
The overseas run has been just as important. China led the international markets, and the opening weekend alone brought in $572M abroad from 66 markets.
The reception has helped the film hold on. It carries a 90% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes and a B CinemaScore from audiences. Critics praised Holland’s performance, the action sequences and a more mature, character-driven story than earlier MCU Spider-Man films.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously made ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’, has been singled out for the film’s direction. Writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers return after penning the earlier films in the series. The cast includes Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon and Jon Bernthal.

The film cost $225M to make, and its worldwide gross is now more than 11 times that production budget. The $225M figure doesn’t include marketing, so profit is smaller than those multiples suggest. Even so, it is one of the most profitable releases of the year.
The film’s next goal is a final total near $2.52B. Catching ‘Avatar’ and ‘Endgame’, which sit just under $2.93B, looks very unlikely. One analysis said earlier in the run that topping the near-$3B of ‘Avatar’ was improbable.

Still, third place all-time is a remarkable spot for a character who looked to have lost his luster at the box office.
Where does Spider-Man: Brand New Day rank among Tom Holland's Spider-Man films?
