‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Just Outgrossed ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ at the Domestic Box Office

Superhero movies rarely stay in the record books for long, but few have gotten dethroned as fast as this summer’s box office has moved. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has spent nearly two weeks rewriting expectations for what a modern blockbuster run can look like, and the film shows no signs of slowing its climb.

The Tom Holland sequel opened with the biggest domestic debut in box office history, pulling in $360 million and edging out the previous record set by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ back in 2019. What’s followed has been just as remarkable, with the film becoming the fastest ever to cross $400 million domestically and the second-fastest to reach $1 billion worldwide.

Now the movie has cleared another milestone on the all-time domestic charts. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has officially surpassed ‘Avengers: Infinity War’s’ total domestic haul, moving past one of the highest-grossing superhero films ever released in the process.

‘Infinity War‘ had long stood as a benchmark for Marvel’s box office dominance, having opened to $257 million domestically in 2018 and going on to become one of the top-grossing films in franchise history. For ‘Brand New Day’ to pass that total in under two weeks of release speaks to just how unusual the film’s weekday performance has been compared to typical superhero sequels.

Much of that momentum has come from strength on days when blockbusters normally cool off. The film delivered the biggest Monday in box office history with $47 million, topping the previous high set by ‘Black Panther’ at $40 million, and it also posted the biggest Tuesday ever with $42 million, surpassing ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’s’ prior mark.

That consistency helped the film become the highest-grossing movie of 2026 in just seven days, overtaking ‘Toy Story 5’ along the way. With a combined domestic and international haul pushing past $1 billion within six days, only ‘Avengers: Endgame’ reached that threshold faster.

Sony’s motion picture group chairman Tom Rothman celebrated the film’s opening weekend by framing its success around the story’s themes, tying the box office results to the movie’s focus on friendship and connection.

Passing ‘Infinity War’ adds another line to a growing list of records the film has already claimed, and industry trackers expect more milestones ahead given how strong its weekday numbers have remained deep into its run. With little major competition on the release calendar and reviews holding steady, ‘Brand New Day’ appears positioned to keep climbing the all-time domestic list in the weeks ahead.

The broader 2026 box office has also benefited from the film’s success, with summer ticket sales pushing toward the $4 billion mark for only the second time since the pandemic reshaped moviegoing habits. Between ‘Brand New Day,’ ‘The Odyssey,’ and other summer hits, this year is on pace to be one of the strongest for theaters in recent memory.

For a franchise many assumed had already peaked with ‘No Way Home,’ ‘Brand New Day’ has proven there was still room to climb even higher.
