Box office history has been rewritten almost daily since Tom Holland’s latest outing as Peter Parker hit theaters, but this latest milestone caps off a first week unlike anything the industry has seen before. Rather than another single-day record, this one measures something considerably harder to sustain across a full seven days of ticket sales.

That distinction matters because holding onto record-breaking momentum through an entire opening week, well past the initial weekend rush, is a far tougher benchmark to clear than any single-day total. Few films in history have managed to keep pace with the kind of numbers ‘Brand New Day’ has been posting since its debut.

Sony Pictures Entertainment has now confirmed that ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ officially hit a cumulative domestic gross of $508.7 million on Thursday, making it the quickest movie to pass the $500 million milestone at the domestic box office and giving it the highest-grossing first week in domestic box office history, surpassing ‘Avengers: Endgame.’

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Just Beat ‘Avengers: Endgame’ to a Record Nobody Thought Was Catchable

That achievement places ‘Brand New Day’ in genuinely rare company. Only 23 movies in history have ever grossed more than $500 million domestically without adjusting for inflation, and just six of those belong to the MCU, a list that includes ‘Endgame,’ ‘No Way Home,’ ‘Black Panther,’ ‘Infinity War,’ ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ and ‘The Avengers.’

‘Endgame’ previously took eight days to reach the same $500 million threshold back in 2019, meaning ‘Brand New Day’ beat that record by a full day. To put that pace in even sharper context, ‘Endgame’ had only hit a comparable domestic total after roughly a similar stretch of release, despite going on to become both the highest-grossing MCU movie and the second highest-grossing film of all time behind ‘Avatar.’

The daily numbers behind this milestone have been just as remarkable individually. The film delivered the biggest domestic sums for both a Monday and a Tuesday in box office history, while continuing to add records at what’s been described as a head-spinning pace throughout its first week in theaters.

Looking ahead, if ‘Brand New Day’ continues at its current trajectory relative to ‘Endgame,’ it could eventually climb to a domestic total around $921.4 million, which would make it the second-highest-grossing domestic release of all time behind only 2015’s ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ at $936.7 million. Globally, the film is potentially on track to gross more than $2 billion by the end of its theatrical run, though it remains to be seen whether it can ultimately outgross ‘Endgame’s’ full worldwide haul of $2.799 billion.

For a franchise now on its eleventh live-action installment, claiming the fastest-ever run to half a billion dollars marks a genuinely historic achievement, one that few would have predicted even a month before the film’s release. Whether ‘Brand New Day’ can keep pace with ‘Endgame’ at the very top of the all-time charts remains the biggest question left standing as its theatrical run continues.

Did you expect 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' to break the $500 million record this quickly?
