Five years is a long time to wait for a friendly neighborhood hero, but the numbers suggest Spider-Man fans haven’t lost a single thread of enthusiasm for Tom Holland’s web-slinger. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ marks Holland’s seventh MCU appearance as Peter Parker, and his fourth solo outing as the character, a historic first for any live-action version of the wall-crawler.

The film picks up after the events of ‘No Way Home,’ with Peter Parker now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves, fighting crime in a New York that no longer knows his name. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the cast includes Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Michael Mando as Mac Gargan, and Sadie Sink in a still-mysterious role.

That setup has clearly resonated with audiences long before a single frame has screened publicly. According to Deadline, Sony and Marvel Studios’ ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ posted the best first-day presales of any film in five years, the strongest results of 2026 so far. As @GlobalBoxOffice reported on X, domestic pre-sales have now surpassed $40 million, with the film tracking for a domestic opening above $250 million, which would make it Hollywood’s biggest debut since ‘No Way Home.’

Fandango also confirmed that ‘Brand New Day’ became the ticketing service’s biggest first-day pre-seller of the year, surpassing ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu,’ ‘Project Hail Mary,’ and even Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey,’ making it one of Fandango’s top ten all-time first-day pre-sellers. For context, the last time Hollywood saw presale momentum like this was when ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ accumulated roughly $78 million in advance sales before its release, going on to post the second-best domestic opening ever at $260.1 million.

The presales surge follows the first tracking numbers, which already showed ‘Brand New Day’ topping the entire summer slate in audience interest. It has also been reported that test screenings for the film have been overwhelmingly positive, though the ending has drawn slightly more divided reactions, suggesting strong word-of-mouth could carry the film well beyond opening weekend.

This is also the final MCU movie before ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ making it the last piece of the puzzle for fans eager to understand how Peter Parker’s story feeds into the larger Phase 6 endgame. Holland’s MCU trilogy alone made $3.9 billion, with ‘No Way Home’ shattering records with its $1.9 billion global haul, so expectations for what ‘Brand New Day’ can achieve are anything but modest.

Tom Holland has described his fourth solo film as the first that feels truly rooted in the classic elements of the character, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige noting that Peter is finally shown living in a small apartment, listening to a police scanner, and going out to use his powers responsibly in a way no previous MCU entry had done.

The film opens July 31, and with still weeks left for pre-sales to grow, analysts believe the opening weekend haul could rival some of the biggest debuts in Hollywood history. Whether you think ‘Brand New Day’ has what it takes to finally top ‘No Way Home,’ or whether nothing can touch that multiversal magic, is the debate worth having right now in the comments.
