‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Runtime Finally Revealed and Fans Are Reacting
Every time a new chapter of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man journey arrives, it seems to come with a fresh set of records to break. The web-slinger has already claimed the biggest domestic opening weekend in MCU history, the highest-grossing superhero trilogy ever, and more. Now, even before a single ticket has been sold, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is lining up to claim one more title.
AMC Theaters, one of the largest cinema chains in North America, has listed the upcoming Marvel Studios film at a runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes, a detail picked up and circulated widely online. Earlier listings from Shaw Theatres in Singapore and Cineworld in London had suggested similar figures, with Shaw showing 2 hours and 25 minutes and Cineworld matching the AMC listing at 150 minutes. Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed the runtime, but the convergence of multiple independent theater sources is difficult to dismiss.
If the two-and-a-half-hour figure holds, ‘Brand New Day’ will become the longest Spider-Man film ever made. It would also be the MCU’s longest movie since 2022’s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, which ran 2 hours and 41 minutes, and would rank as the fourth-longest film in MCU history overall, behind ‘Avengers: Endgame’, ‘Eternals’, and ‘Wakanda Forever’. For a standalone superhero film, that is a genuinely ambitious runtime.
The length makes sense given what is already confirmed to be inside the movie. Four years have passed since the events of ‘No Way Home’, and Peter Parker is now an adult living entirely alone after erasing himself from the memories of those he loves. A strange wave of crime and an unexpected physical change threatening his existence frame the film’s central conflict.
The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, working from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the writing team behind the previous Holland Spider-Man films. The confirmed cast is extensive, with Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Michael Mando as Scorpion, Marvin Jones III as Tombstone, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner all confirmed. Newcomer Sadie Sink rounds out the principal cast in a role that has not been officially disclosed, though substantial speculation points toward a prominent mutant character with telepathic abilities.
Director Cretton has been noted for his focus on practical, handmade action over heavy green screen use, going so far as to hire Jackie Chan’s stunt team for the production. The commitment to physical filmmaking came at a cost, as lead actor Tom Holland reportedly injured himself during a stunt, briefly halting production.
The length of any given Marvel film has increasingly become a signal of how much the studio believes in the material it is delivering. Longer runtimes for MCU films are typically reserved for ensemble pieces or stories with significant narrative weight, which makes the reported figure for this solo adventure feel like a statement. ‘Brand New Day’ is not just another entry in the franchise but an attempt to reestablish Spider-Man’s importance in a post-multiverse landscape where street-level storytelling has taken on new stakes.
Tickets for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ are reportedly set to go on sale on June 26, which is also when the official runtime is likely to be confirmed by the studio. New footage tied to the ticket launch is also anticipated, which would give fans their first proper look at the film’s full scope before July’s release.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ swings into theaters on July 31.
