‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Star Zendaya Reveals the Real Reason She Can’t Stay Away From Movie Sets, Even on Her Days Off

Most actors treat a day off as sacred, the rare stretch of time carved out specifically to get away from cameras, call sheets, and craft services. Zendaya, it turns out, operates by a completely different set of rules.

That difference became clear during a recent joint interview alongside Tom Holland, where the conversation drifted toward how the two actually spend their free time between projects. What started as a lighthearted exchange quickly turned into a genuine window into just how deeply Zendaya’s love for filmmaking runs.

Holland kicked things off by teasing his fiancée’s habits directly, joking that “if you’re not working, you will go to work,” a line that set up Zendaya’s own explanation for why she can’t seem to stay away from film sets even when she technically has nothing scheduled. Rather than pushing back on the characterization, she leaned into it enthusiastically.

“Yeah, cuz it’s fun,” Zendaya explained. “I mean I remember like they were shooting this incredible opening sequence for ‘Dune.’ And I was like, is it cool if I just was there early in Budapest and it was cold and they had this crazy setup and I was like, I got to see this.” She went on to frame the appeal in simple terms, adding that it’s “just cool as a fan alone” to be able to watch a massive production come together in real time.

That sentiment lines up with comments Zendaya has made elsewhere about how she experiences her own career. She’s previously described the process of making ‘The Odyssey’ as something close to pure fandom, saying watching Holland work on set from the sidelines nearly brought her to tears out of sheer pride, despite not sharing any scenes with him in the film.

Her packed schedule over the past year makes the habit even more remarkable. Zendaya has openly discussed juggling ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ ‘Dune: Part Three,’ ‘Euphoria’ Season 3, and ‘The Odyssey’ during overlapping stretches of production, at one point describing wrapping an overnight ‘Euphoria’ shoot at four in the morning only to catch a flight to Budapest hours later to begin work on ‘Dune.’

That kind of relentless pace hasn’t dimmed her enthusiasm for the work itself. Zendaya closed out the exchange by summing up her mindset plainly: “I love what I do and I love my job the actual creative part of making it doesn’t always feel like a job.”

The comment fits a broader pattern in how Zendaya has talked about her relationship to fame and filmmaking throughout her career. She’s been candid in the past about finding the celebrity side of the industry uncomfortable, even as she’s remained unwavering in her love for the actual craft of acting and being present on set, treating the work itself as the reward rather than a means to an end.

For someone whose name has become nearly inescapable across 2026’s biggest releases, it’s a fittingly earnest explanation for why she keeps showing up, camera or no camera, day off or not. Watching movies get made, it seems, is simply where Zendaya feels most at home.
