‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Stars Tom Holland and Zendaya Reveal Their Dream Spanish Actors for the MCU
Tom Holland and Zendaya have revealed which Spanish actors they would love to see become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During their promotional tour for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” the two stars stopped in Madrid and shared their dream casting ideas in an interview with CINEMANÍA.
The couple is currently promoting the fourth solo Spider-Man movie set in the MCU, which has taken them across several European cities. During their conversation with journalist Janire Zurbano from CINEMANÍA, Holland and Zendaya were asked which Spanish performers they could imagine joining Marvel in the future.
Holland quickly mentioned two major Spanish stars he believes would be perfect for the superhero franchise. The actor praised Antonio Banderas and Javier Bardem, saying both would bring something special to the MCU.
“I worked with Antonio Banderas and he would be pretty epic. Javier would be fantastic. He’s so good in Dune. I love him in those movies. He’s so intimidating and adorable at the same time playing that character,” Holland told CINEMANÍA.
Zendaya agreed with Holland’s thoughts on Bardem, pointing out that the actor can bring both strength and emotion to his roles.
“Yes, Javier Bardem has warmth as well. Obviously, his character in Dune is very tough, but he gives him warmth too,” she said. The pair also brought up another Spanish name that has recently become a major international star. Zendaya said she would love to see Rosalía appear in the MCU. “And if there’s any way to have Rosalía, that would be great. I love her,” Zendaya said.
The actress recently worked with Rosalía on the third season of Euphoria, where the singer made her acting debut. Holland then joked about a possible storyline involving the artist.
“Maybe there’s a concert in the next movie in New York, and something is happening, and Peter and MJ are there,” Holland joked.
While the MCU already has a Spanish performer in one of its major roles, fans have yet to see Banderas, Bardem, or Rosalía enter the franchise. Spanish actress Dafne Keen currently plays Laura, also known as X-23, a character she first portrayed in Logan before joining the MCU with Deadpool & Wolverine.
During their Madrid visit, Holland and Zendaya also looked back at their history with Spider-Man. The pair posed with a special CINEMANÍA issue from August 2017, which featured Holland on the cover shortly after he was announced as the new Spider-Man following previous versions played by Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” will continue Peter Parker’s story after the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” The movie takes place four years after the previous film, with Peter living alone and protecting New York while most people have forgotten who he is.
Alongside Holland and Zendaya, the film will feature returning cast members including Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, and Jon Bernthal as Punisher. New additions include Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Tramell Tillman.
With Marvel continuing to expand its universe, Holland and Zendaya’s choices show that some of Spain’s biggest stars could easily fit into the superhero world.
