‘Star Wars’ Fans Get Major Update On Simon Kinberg’s New Trilogy
Simon Kinberg’s new “Star Wars” trilogy is starting to take shape, and according to early reports, it could become the next major chapter in the Skywalker saga.
The project was first announced in 2024. Simon Kinberg, known for writing and producing several “X-Men” films, was confirmed to be developing three new “Star Wars” movies. These films are widely reported to function as Episodes 10, 11, and 12 of the main saga, continuing the story after the original Skywalker storyline.
At the center of the early development is a long treatment written by Kinberg. According to Kathleen Kennedy, the story document is about 70 pages long. She explained that the treatment lays out the foundation for the trilogy’s direction and tone. The script work was expected to continue after that stage.
Kennedy said in her exit interview with Deadline that Kinberg’s plan is already far along in development. She described it as “really what’s up next,” showing that Lucasfilm considers it a priority project for the franchise’s future.
In March 2025, Kennedy gave another update confirming that the trilogy is still actively in development. She said Lucasfilm was expecting completed drafts by June 2025. She also referred to the project as “the next saga,” which suggests the studio sees it as a major continuation rather than a side story or spin-off.
The trilogy is being developed with Kennedy also involved as a producer alongside Kinberg. While full story details have not been released, the idea of continuing the Skywalker saga in numbered episodes has already created discussion among fans. Many are curious about how the story will connect to past films and whether it will focus on new characters or return to familiar ones.
Even though the project is in development, the final decision still depends on Lucasfilm’s new leadership direction. As with many major “Star Wars” projects, timelines and creative plans can shift depending on studio decisions. Still, current reports suggest that Kinberg’s trilogy is one of the most advanced film projects currently being worked on.
The idea of Episodes 10 through 12 also marks a significant moment for the franchise. After “The Rise of Skywalker” wrapped up the Skywalker saga in 2019, Lucasfilm shifted toward standalone films and Disney+ series. A return to numbered episodes would signal a new attempt to continue that core storyline in a structured way.
For now, the trilogy remains in early development, and no release dates have been announced. Still, with a full treatment completed and scripts expected, Simon Kinberg’s project appears to be one of the most important upcoming directions for the “Star Wars” universe, as confirmed through statements from Kathleen Kennedy and reporting from Deadline and other industry outlets.
