‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’: First Look at Characters & Backstories Revealed

‘The Acolyte’ is an upcoming television series set in the Star Wars universe, created by Leslye Headland. It takes place at the end of the High Republic era, before the events of the main Star Wars films. Amandla Stenberg and Lee Jung-jae are starring in the leading roles. Headland’s interest in the Star Wars franchise began in 2019, and she started developing the series for Lucasfilm in April 2020. The title was announced in December, and filming took place from October 2022 to June 2023. The eight-episode series is set to premiere on Disney+ on June 4, 2024.

Today the first trailer for the show was released and we got the first look at the exciting roster of characters.

Mae is portrayed by Amandla Stenberg, a padawan turned dangerous warrior.

Played by Lee Jung-jae, Sol is a respected Jedi Master.

Master Sol is a wise, highly respected, powerful Jedi Master, strong in the ways of the Force, who is going through emotional conflict.

Manny Jacinot will be playing Qimir, a rougish former smuggler.

Qimir is a former smuggler who now makes his living as a trader, procuring unusual things and enjoying a life of leisure.

Carrie-Anne Moss will be playing Indara, a Jedi Master.

Master Indara is a Jedi Master of great physical and mental skill.

Joonas Suotamo portrays Kelnacca, a Wookiee Jedi master. Suotamo previously portrayed Chewbacca in the sequel trilogy films and ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story.’

Kelnacca, a Wookiee Jedi, is a loner who lives a solitary life.

Charlie Barnett will be portraying Yord Fandar a Jedi, luckily his description has been expanded upon with official information.

Yord, a Jedi Knight and guardian from the Jedi Temple, is an overachiever and a rule follower. His need to be a by-the-book Jedi can cloud his mind.

Jodie Turner-Smith stars as Mother Aniseya, the leader of a coven of witches.

Mother Aniseya is the leader of a coven of Witches who value their independence and the preservation of their beliefs and powers.

Dafne Keen will be playing Jecki Lon, a padawan to Sol.

Jecki is the Padawan apprentice to Master Sol. Although she is young, she projects calm and conducts herself with maturity.

Rebecca Henderson portrays Vernestra Rwoh, a Jedi Knight prodigy.

Vernestra Rwoh is an elder Jedi Master who has ascended the ranks of the Jedi from a teenage prodigy to a leader in the Order. She became one of the youngest Jedi Knights in a generation at age 15, and solidified her status as a prodigy when she took Imri Cantaros as a Padawan the next year. With a purple-bladed lightsaber that can change into a lightwhip, young Rwoh led with unwavering faith in the Force and devotion to the Jedi Order. But in the year after the fall of Starlight Beacon — while mourning those lost in the destruction, including her own Padawan — Vernestra pulled back from the Order and shifted her focus to heal herself.

Leslye Headland directed the premiere episodes (episodes 101 and 102) of the series. Other directors include Kogonada (episodes 103 and 107), Alex Garcia Lopez (episodes 104 and 105), and Hanelle Culpepper (episodes 106 and 108). Michael Abels, renowned for his work on ‘Get Out’ and ‘Us’ provided the score.
