‘Street Fighter’s’ Callina Liang Just Reminded Everyone Why Miu Miu Made Her a Muse

Some actresses build their reputation one prestige credit at a time, quietly stacking festival buzz until the industry can’t look away. Callina Liang has been doing exactly that, moving from a Sundance breakout to a beloved gaming franchise in the span of just a couple of years.

The Canadian actress first caught wider attention through her role in Steven Soderbergh’s psychological horror thriller, where she played a troubled teenager opposite Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, and Julia Fox after the film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. That same year also saw her take on a lead role in J.C. Lee’s ‘Bad Genius,’ playing a student who masterminds an underground cheating operation.

Now Liang is turning heads for a very different reason, appearing in a striking new set of images for Miu Miu that have fans and fashion watchers buzzing. The photos mark her latest turn as a face for the Italian luxury house, continuing a relationship that’s placed her alongside some of fashion’s most closely watched campaigns.

Liang’s connection to Miu Miu isn’t new. She previously starred in the brand’s L’Été 2025 campaign, photographed by artist and documentary filmmaker Siân Davey in a lush garden setting alongside actress and model Diana Silvers, marking Davey’s first foray into fashion photography. That campaign leaned into childhood-inspired dress codes reimagined through cotton sundresses, aviator jackets, and school-uniform greys, giving Liang a prominent spot within one of the house’s more talked-about seasonal rollouts.

Her continued presence in Miu Miu’s world speaks to how quickly she’s become a recognizable face within high fashion circles, even as her acting career pulls her in an entirely different direction. Few actresses her age can claim both a Sundance breakout and a recurring spot in a major luxury campaign within the same stretch of years.

The bigger headline in Liang’s career right now might be her casting as Chun-Li in Legendary Entertainment’s live-action ‘Street Fighter’ adaptation, a role that places her opposite Noah Centineo’s Ken and makes her the fourth actress to play the character, following Kristin Kreuk before her. The film, directed by Kitao Sakurai, is set to arrive in cinemas worldwide on October 16.

Liang’s martial arts training played a meaningful role in landing the part, building on action experience she first gained performing stunts during her television debut as Mei in the ITVX teen drama ‘Tell Me Everything.’ That show, from the makers of ‘Top Boy’ and ‘Skins,’ gave her an early taste of the physical demands that would later serve her well in a franchise built entirely around combat.

Reflecting on that debut role, Liang has described it as something she’ll carry with her for the rest of her career, noting how much it taught her despite the many challenges along the way, and expressing pride in how the show’s variety let her fully embody Mei as her first on-screen part, in comments she shared with Square Mile.

Liang’s path to Hollywood has been anything but conventional. Born in Vancouver, she spent her childhood moving between Beijing, Sydney, and Singapore before eventually settling between Toronto and London, an upbringing that left her fluent in both English and Mandarin.

That global background has clearly shaped how she approaches her career, and it’s part of why her casting as Chun-Li, an Interpol officer with roots spanning multiple cultures, feels like such a natural fit. Liang has also spoken about wanting the industry to move further away from typecasting and tokenism, hoping to see acting become a space where craft matters more than how someone presents.

Between her expanding fashion presence and a starring role in one of the year’s most anticipated video game adaptations, Liang’s 2026 is shaping up to be a defining stretch in her career. With ‘Street Fighter’ set to introduce her to a massive global audience next month, her latest Miu Miu appearance feels less like a standalone moment and more like another marker of just how far her profile has climbed.
