A major change is coming to Sullivan’s Crossing, and one of the show’s lead stars has now spoken about it. According to Entertainment Weekly, Morgan Kohan has reacted to the departure of Scott Patterson from the series, calling it a big shift for the story and for the characters moving forward.

Sullivan’s Crossing, based on the book series by Robyn Carr, follows Maggie Sullivan, a successful neurosurgeon from Boston whose life falls apart after legal trouble. She returns to her hometown and tries to rebuild her life while reconnecting with her father and her past. The show mixes personal drama with emotional family storytelling, and it has built a loyal audience since its debut.

Scott Patterson’s exit is one of the biggest changes the series has faced so far. He played a key character whose presence was central to Maggie’s emotional journey. Morgan Kohan, who plays Maggie, said the cast and audience were aware that his departure would strongly affect the show’s direction.

In her interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kohan explained that even though the change is difficult, it also opens the door for new storylines and new characters. She said the series will evolve because of it and that fans will still have a lot to look forward to in season 4.

She shared her thoughts on how the show will move forward, saying, “We all knew that it was going to change things and that the audience would definitely have a reaction to that. But I really do think no matter what, when there’s going to be such a big change in a show that’s so loved in the way that it is, it does open up so many new opportunities. And I love so many of the characters that we get to bring in this season.”

Kohan also said that the character’s absence will deeply affect Maggie herself. According to her, Maggie loses an important source of guidance and emotional stability. Even though the character is not physically present in the new season, the show will still acknowledge him and his influence on the story.

She added that the series will not ignore his impact, explaining that the character remains an important presence in Maggie’s life even after leaving the show. However, she did not reveal how exactly the series will continue to include him in the storyline.

Behind the scenes, there are different explanations for Patterson’s departure. Showrunner Roma Roth has described it as part of a planned character journey and suggested that the door remains open for a possible return in the future if the story allows it.

Patterson, however, has offered a different version of events. He has said that his exit came after creative disagreements behind the scenes. In his words, “The creative differences were becoming untenable, and I just sadly realized that the show was not something that I could agree to continue.”

Despite the controversy, the production is moving forward. Season 4 of Sullivan’s Crossing is already available to stream on Netflix, and the story is expected to continue evolving with new characters and shifting relationships at the center.

While fans may feel the loss of a key cast member, the show’s lead believes it also marks a turning point. The focus now shifts to how Maggie adapts, grows, and faces life at Sullivan’s Crossing without one of her strongest emotional anchors.
