‘Supergirl’ Star Milly Alcock Names Her Favorite Spider-Man — and Fans Are Surprised
Milly Alcock is less than two weeks out from her big-screen debut as Kara Zor-El, and she is not holding back on her superhero opinions.
While promoting ‘Supergirl’ on a recent episode of Big Bro with Kid Cudi, the rapper asked Alcock to rank her favorite actors to play DC and Marvel superheroes and villains in live-action. The answers were candid, occasionally diplomatic, and in one case, a perfect gift to Andrew Garfield fans everywhere.
When the conversation landed on Spider-Man, Kid Cudi went with Tobey Maguire, citing his generation, but Alcock picked Andrew Garfield without hesitation.
It is a choice that has been sending ripples across social media, given that Alcock herself is about to become one of the most high-profile superhero actors on the planet. For her to put Garfield at the top of the web-slinging rankings carries a particular kind of weight right now.
The rapid-fire segment made clear that Alcock has strong opinions about some of the most iconic superhero performances ever put on screen, with her full list of favorites also including Christian Bale as Batman, Heath Ledger as Joker, Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, and Mark Ruffalo as Hulk.
Her Superman answer, predictably, landed on her on-screen cousin David Corenswet. Alcock joked that she felt she had little choice, saying “I can’t say otherwise, I think I would be out of a job,” before adding genuine admiration: “He just is Superman. I met him and I was like, ‘Oh, you’re the guy.'”
Garfield’s enduring popularity among fans and now fellow superhero actors speaks to how much ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ films have been reappraised over the years. The actor himself has said he would love to return to the role in some capacity, though he insists it would have to be “very weird” and “offbeat and surprising” to make it worthwhile. Fans have grown increasingly skeptical of Garfield’s denials about future Marvel appearances, particularly after he famously denied returning for ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ right up until its release.
‘Supergirl’, directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, is the second film in James Gunn’s DC Universe and arrives in theaters on June 26, 2026, with a reported budget of $170 million. Alcock’s version of Kara is defined by survivors’ guilt and trauma, a far cry from a traditional superhero origin, with screenwriter Nogueira noting that Alcock won the role by making the audition room crew “ugly cry” during her performance.
Even if the film faces a steep climb given the disastrous legacy of the 1984 original, Alcock is already confirmed to return as Kara Zor-El in ‘Man of Tomorrow’, James Gunn’s 2027 sequel to ‘Superman’, where she will go up against Lars Eidinger’s Brainiac alongside Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor and Aaron Pierre’s Green Lantern.
Whatever the box office says later this month, Alcock is already proving she belongs in the superhero conversation, picking favorites and defending them with the confidence of someone who has clearly done her homework.
