Sydney Sweeney Gives Positive Update on ‘Barbarella’ Remake
Sydney Sweeney has given an optimistic update on her remake of the cult-classic sci-fi movie Barbarella. Despite three years of little news, Sweeney recently spoke to Empire and shared that the project is still moving forward.
Sweeney became widely known for her role as Cassie Howard in HBO’s Euphoria. In the series, she plays a high school student dealing with rumors and relationship issues. She also appeared in shows like The Handmaid’s Tale, Sharp Objects, and The White Lotus.
In movies, she was part of Madame Webb and starred in Anyone But You, a romantic comedy where two former lovers pretend to be a couple at a wedding. Sweeney is also set to appear in thrillers Echo Valley and The Housemaid, along with a biopic about boxer Christy Martin.
Back in 2022, Sweeney joined Sony’s Barbarella reboot as both executive producer and leading actress. Although the project has been slow to develop, Sweeney assured fans that it is still on track.
She said, “I was just in London and had a meeting to discuss the story and the script. I can’t say too much, but it’s really going to come together in a very, very fun and big way. It’s a long process. I don’t think people realise how long some things can take, but it’s gonna be worth the wait.”
When asked if Barbarella was on her bucket list, Sweeney replied, “Yes, it is! That’s what I’m saying! My thirties, I’ve really got to step it up!”
Fans are eager to see what Sweeney will bring to the remake, and her dedication to the project gives hope that the movie will eventually come to life.
