Sydney Sweeney Took a Serious Hit Filming Her Boxing Role
Sydney Sweeney went all in for her new role as boxer Christy Martin in the upcoming film “Christy,” and it came with some real physical risks. The “Euphoria” star, 28, shared details about her intense preparation and the injuries she suffered while filming.
To embody Martin, the first female boxer inducted into the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame, Sweeney gained 30 pounds, trained extensively with weights, and took kickboxing lessons. She wanted to make her portrayal as authentic as possible.
In an interview on WFAN Radio, Sweeney revealed that she actually got hit during the fight scenes, which led to a concussion. “So when you see us hitting each other, we’re actually connecting. There’s bloody noises, I got a concussion, it was full force,” she said.

Sweeney explained that she wanted the fights to reflect Martin’s personality and emotion, rather than rely on stunt doubles or choppy editing. “There’s so much of Christy that comes to life in these scenes of her in the ring… you don’t get to see Christy’s personality shine if it’s not real,” she added.

Christy’s journey is so deeply inspiring… Knowing what she’s endured, what she’s pushed through—it made me want to cry,” Sweeney wrote. She also expressed pride in the physical work she put into the role and excitement for audiences to see Martin’s story on screen.
The film is set to hit theaters on November 7, and promises to showcase not only intense boxing action but also the resilience and determination of Martin herself.
