Conversations with a Killer (Anthology series)

“Conversations with a Killer” is Joe Berlinger’s true crime anthology series on Netflix, where each installment digs into a different notorious criminal using unreleased audio recordings, prison interviews, and firsthand accounts from people connected to the case — victims’ families, investigators, journalists, and sometimes former associates. It’s built around actual tapes of the killer’s own voice, giving viewers a rare, unfiltered window into how these people talked about their crimes.

The series has covered five subjects since it began in 2019: Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Jeffrey Dahmer, the Son of Sam, and — as its just-released, final chapter — Charles Manson, built around 137 previously unheard prison phone calls he made to a retired detective over the last nine years of his life. Berlinger has said he wanted to end the franchise with Manson specifically because, in his view, no one did more to shape America’s modern obsession with true crime.
