De Noche (Film)

‘De Noche’ is Todd Haynes’ 1930s gay romance following a hard-boiled Los Angeles detective (Pedro Pascal) and a younger boarding school teacher (Danny Ramirez) whose passionate love affair makes them targets of the city’s corrupt political machine, forcing them to flee to Mexico. The project nearly collapsed in 2024 when Joaquin Phoenix quit days before filming, but it was revived with Pascal, MK2 Films financing, and a shoot in Mexico, and it’s now in post-production with no release date announced. Haynes, who once said it would be NC-17, has now revealed it will be R-rated, describing it as a complex love story about masculinity and vulnerability.
