Devil May Cry (Franchise)

Devil May Cry is a Capcom action-adventure game franchise created by Hideki Kamiya, later directed mainly by Hideaki Itsuno, with a focus on fast-paced “character action” combat that rewards stylish, combo-heavy gameplay and performance rankings. The series follows demon hunter Dante as he fights to stop demonic invasions on Earth, using over-the-top combat mechanics inspired by creative, free-form action choreography. It also draws inspiration from Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, which influences its themes and structure.

The franchise began as an early concept for Resident Evil 4 before becoming its own series, eventually expanding into multiple sequels, a reboot (DmC: Devil May Cry), HD remasters, and modern platform releases. The latest main entry is Devil May Cry 5 (2019), and the series has sold over 38 million copies worldwide, spawning adaptations in comics, novels, and animated shows.
