Fjord (Film)

Cristian Mungiu’s ‘Fjord’ is a drama about the Gheorghius, a devout Romanian Norwegian couple played by Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve, who move with their 5 children to a remote Norwegian fjord village, and it was inspired by true events. When their daughter Elia arrives at school with bruises, the authorities remove all 5 children, and the family is pulled into a tense legal battle that pits faith and traditional parenting against the state’s reach. It won the Palme d’Or at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, is Mungiu’s English language debut, and was released in US theaters by NEON on October 9.
