Resident Evil (Franchise)
The *Resident Evil* film series is a biopunk action-horror franchise produced and distributed by Sony Pictures, based on Capcom’s popular video games. The series began in 2002 with Paul W. S. Anderson directing, and it originally followed Alice, a character created for the films, as she battles the Umbrella Corporation during a global zombie outbreak. Over time, several games’ characters such as Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, and Chris Redfield appeared in the series, which has since been rebooted twice, most recently in 2026 under director Zach Cregger.
Despite mostly negative reviews from critics, the franchise has been a major commercial success, earning over $1.2 billion worldwide and becoming one of the highest-grossing video game adaptations and zombie film series in history.
