The Rookie is an American police procedural series created by Alexi Hawley for ABC. It follows John Nolan, a man in his 40s who becomes the oldest rookie at the LAPD, and is inspired by the real-life experience of LAPD officer William Norcross. The show premiered in 2018 and stars Nathan Fillion alongside a large ensemble cast.
Produced by 20th Television and Lionsgate Television, the series has been renewed multiple times, with Season 9 confirmed in 2026. It has also expanded into spin-offs, including The Rookie: Feds and the upcoming The Rookie: North, making it one of ABC’s longest-running current dramas.
