True Detective (TV Series)
True Detective is an HBO anthology crime drama created by Nic Pizzolatto that began in 2014, with each season telling a separate story with new characters and settings. Season 1 follows detectives in Louisiana tracking a serial killer over many years, while Season 2 is set in California and centers on multiple investigators tied to a political murder case. Season 3 takes place in the Ozarks and follows a long-running missing children investigation, and Season 4 (*Night Country*), set in Alaska and led by Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, follows the mystery of a vanished research team.
The series has received strong critical recognition overall, with Season 1 and *Night Country* earning the most acclaim, and the latter becoming the most-watched season. A fifth season is currently in development with Issa López returning as showrunner, with production expected to begin ahead of a planned 2027 release. Nicolas Cage has also been reported to be in talks to potentially star in the upcoming season.
