‘Ted Lasso‘ fans have had years to sit with the bittersweet ending of Season 3, and now that the show is coming back, it feels like the perfect time to revisit where everyone landed. Roy And Keeley’s Rocky Road
No storyline tugged at fans’ hearts quite like the will they won’t they of Roy and Keeley. Despite plenty of Ted and Rebecca shippers out there, the real emotional core of ‘Ted Lasso’ has always been Roy and Keeley, two opposites who somehow make sense together.
Their relationship didn’t have a smooth ride into Season 3 either. After circling each other in Season 1 and finally making things official in Season 2, the couple hit a shocking snag right in the Season 3 premiere when it was revealed Roy and Keeley had broken up.
The split came down to competing priorities more than any single blowup. Both of them had growing responsibilities, with Roy taking on coaching duties at Richmond and Keeley running her own PR firm, and they realized they simply could not find the time to invest in each other.
That left the two on separate paths for most of the season, each chasing personal growth outside of the relationship they had built. It’s exactly the kind of messy, human ending that made ‘Ted Lasso’ feel less like a tidy sitcom and more like a show willing to sit in discomfort.
AFC Richmond’s New Era
Life at the club didn’t stop just because Ted flew home. Roy was named the new manager of Richmond, working alongside Beard and Nate to round out the coaching staff.
Nate’s arc closed out on a redemptive note after a rocky stretch of the season. Making up for his earlier transgressions, Nate glued the club’s “Believe” sign back together, restoring it as a fixture of the locker room once again.
Beard also found himself putting down roots in England rather than following Ted home. Ted’s right hand man stayed behind to help coach AFC Richmond and began a marriage with his intense girlfriend Jane, who also appeared to be pregnant, hinting at a very different version of the character going forward.
Keeley wasn’t done shaping the club’s future either, even after stepping away from her romance with Roy. In the final minutes of the finale, Keeley presented Rebecca with a proposal to launch a women’s team for AFC Richmond, an idea that had been teased throughout the season.
What Season 4 Means for These Characters
The surprise return of the series has fans buzzing about how much has changed in the years since the club’s last chapter closed. After an Emmy winning three season run, ‘Ted Lasso’ is heading back to Apple TV, and the fact that the Season 3 finale was clearly built as a series ending makes the revival feel especially unexpected.
The new season is set to pick up threads that were only planted back in Season 3. Season 4 will reportedly focus heavily on getting that women’s team for AFC Richmond off the ground, the same idea Keeley pitched to Rebecca in the finale’s closing minutes.
