‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 Trailer Reveals a Whole New Team, and a Whole New Kind of Challenge

Coming back from a three-year absence is never easy, especially for a show that ended its last run feeling like a genuine, hard-earned goodbye. Yet somehow, Jason Sudeikis’ folksy American football coach has found his way back to Richmond one more time.

That return has been building steadily since the show’s earlier teaser dropped back in April, giving fans just enough to know Ted was coming back without revealing what exactly he’d be walking into. Now, with the premiere date closing in fast, the full picture has finally arrived.

Apple TV has released the full-length trailer for ‘Ted Lasso‘ Season 4, confirming the beloved comedy will return on August 5, roughly three years after Ted left England to reconnect with his family back home. This time, according to the show’s official description, Ted is taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a newly formed second division women’s football team.

That shift represents a genuine departure from the show’s original premise, moving away from the men’s AFC Richmond squad that defined the series’ first three seasons. Per Apple’s official synopsis, “Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would” throughout the new season, hinting at a story built around risk-taking and reinvention rather than simply replaying old formulas.

Familiar faces are making their way back for the ride as well. Hannah Waddingham returns as team owner Rebecca Welton, alongside Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, Brendan Hunt as assistant coach Coach Beard, and Jeremy Swift reprising his role as the team’s beloved director of football operations.

Joining that returning core is a wave of new cast additions built around the show’s expanded focus. Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely are all set to join the fold, presumably filling out the roster of the newly formed women’s squad Ted now finds himself leading.

The new season will roll out weekly, with episodes releasing every Wednesday starting August 5 and building toward an October 7 finale. This run will consist of ten episodes total, a slight trim from the twelve-episode seasons that made up both Season 2 and Season 3.

Since its 2020 debut, ‘Ted Lasso’ has grown into one of Apple TV’s defining cultural hits, becoming the platform’s most Emmy-nominated comedy series and landing back-to-back wins for Outstanding Comedy Series across its first two seasons. According to figures previously reported by Variety, the show has now been watched for more than twenty-five billion minutes total, underscoring just how deeply it’s resonated with audiences well beyond its initial run.

Whether shifting the show’s focus to a women’s team proves to be the right creative swing remains to be seen, but early trailer reactions suggest fans are more than ready to see where Ted’s next chapter takes him. It’s uncertain at this stage whether Season 4 will ultimately serve as the show’s true final chapter.
