‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 Episode 6 Recap & Ending Explained: Roy’s Drunken Hospital Confession Changes Everything
New Year’s Eve episodes have a long tradition of shaking up ensemble shows, forcing characters into close quarters and honest conversations they’d otherwise avoid. ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 leans hard into that tradition with its sixth episode, splitting its sprawling cast across three different parties as the clock ticks toward midnight.
Titled “Don’t Jump Around Much Anymore,” the episode dropped on Apple TV+ on September 9 and picks up the threads left dangling from the previous installment. The Lady Greyhounds head to a boat party thrown by the eccentric Zelda to court potential investors, while Keeley, Roy and Rebecca celebrate separately at Jamie Tartt’s vodka launch, and Ted opts for a quiet night with his son Henry and ex-wife Michelle.
That quiet split, however, is where the episode’s biggest bombshell lands. Roy ends up in the hospital after a dance floor mishap, and in a drugged, hazy moment he accidentally confesses his true feelings, blowing up not one but two of his relationships in a single line.
Roy’s Injury Sends Everyone To The Hospital
At Jamie’s party, Roy shows up alone, which pleases Keeley even as she processes seeing him move on. Just as he’s about to leave to meet his new love interest, Dr. Erin Beaumont, the song “Jump Around” comes on and pulls both Roy and Jamie onto the dance floor. In the middle of all that jumping, Roy cracks his knee, forcing the group to rush him to the hospital.
There, Keeley meets Erin for the first time and, despite her jealousy, admits Erin seems smart, kind and genuinely right for Roy. She leaves believing he’s in good hands. But once Erin comes in to check on him, a drugged and disoriented Roy greets her warmly before blurting out, “I love you, Keeley,” confirming every doubt Erin had about where his heart really lives.
Zelda’s Boat Party Turns Into A Mess For Alice
While Roy’s drama plays out at the hospital, the rest of the Lady Greyhounds are stuck aboard Zelda’s increasingly bizarre boat party, where she introduces the team to her odd best friend, Hugo. Alice Chilton, still shaken from her recent suspension, almost skips the party entirely while agonizing over her outfit at home with her girlfriend.
When Alice finally arrives, Zelda introduces the coaches to the crowd but pointedly forgets to mention her, leaving Alice visibly insecure. Gemma notices and pulls her aside, where Alice apologizes for having treated her poorly in the past. Gemma reassures her that the team genuinely loves her, a moment of warmth that gets complicated once Zelda starts handing out masks to kick off the next phase of her party, prompting the group to make their exit instead.
Rebecca, Jamie And The Midnight Kiss
Back at Jamie’s party, Rebecca spends the night convinced her fight with Matthijs has cost her the relationship for good, especially after losing access to his location. Jamie steps in to console her with surprisingly wise words, and as midnight approaches, he leans in for a kiss. Before it happens, Rebecca gets a text: Matthijs has arrived in person, having turned off his location sharing specifically to surprise her. The two reunite and share their kiss right at the stroke of midnight instead.
How The Episode Ends
Ted spends most of the night at Mae’s pub with Michelle and Henry, where a long, honest conversation reveals the divorce weighed on Michelle more heavily than he realized. When his whole team, banned from the pub after an earlier fight, shows up outside anyway, Michelle encourages Ted to go join them, and he crosses over just before midnight to ring in the New Year alongside his players.
Ted tells Alice he hopes to see her back at work soon, hinting her suspension is coming to an end. But the episode’s final beat belongs to Alice again, as Lizzie tells her the team loves her, tipping Alice off that Gemma spoke to the group behind her back. Despite Gemma’s insistence she only meant to help, Alice storms off upset, leaving her arc unresolved heading into the season’s back half.
