‘Ted Lasso’ Just Dropped a New Season 4 Photo, and It Has Fans Counting Down to August

Few comfort shows have left as lasting an impression as ‘Ted Lasso,’ the Emmy-winning comedy that turned Jason Sudeikis into a household name and gave audiences a much-needed dose of optimism during one of the more difficult stretches in recent memory. When Season 3 wrapped back in 2023, most fans assumed the story of AFC Richmond had reached its natural conclusion. More than three years later, that assumption has been proven wrong.

Apple TV confirmed earlier this year that ‘Ted Lasso’ would be returning for a fourth season, with Sudeikis back as both star and executive producer alongside a mix of familiar faces and new additions. Since that announcement, the streamer has steadily rolled out teasers, premiere details, and glimpses from the set, keeping fans engaged during the long wait between seasons.

Now Apple has released a brand new photo from the upcoming season, showing a group of cheering, animated fans watching from the sidelines, and it has once again gotten fans buzzing ahead of the show’s return. The image lines up with confirmation that Season 4 will officially premiere on August 5, giving fans a firm date to circle after years of uncertainty about whether the show would ever come back at all.

That premiere date kicks off a ten-episode season, with new installments dropping weekly every Wednesday through October 7. The season marks a significant shift in direction for the show, with Ted taking on what has been described as the biggest challenge of his career yet, stepping in to coach a second division women’s football team rather than returning to AFC Richmond’s men’s squad.

Season 4 also brings back much of the cast that made the show a global phenomenon in the first place. Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift are all returning alongside Sudeikis, reprising their roles as Rebecca Welton, Keeley Jones, Roy Kent, Coach Beard, and Leslie Higgins respectively.

Joining them is a wave of new cast members, including Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, and Abbie Hern, all stepping into as-yet-undisclosed roles for the new season. Grant Feely has also joined the cast as Ted’s son Henry, taking over the role from Gus Turner, who played the character throughout the show’s first three seasons.

Not every familiar face is expected to return, however. Phil Dunster, who played standout AFC Richmond player Jamie Tartt, has reportedly stepped back from his role as a series regular due to a scheduling conflict, marking one of the more notable absences heading into the new season.

Apple TV’s Head of Programming Matt Cherniss has spoken about what the show has meant to audiences since its debut, describing ‘Ted Lasso’ as a juggernaut that has inspired a passionate global fanbase while spreading kindness, compassion, and unwavering belief. That description captures much of why the show’s return has generated so much excitement, even years after fans assumed the story had already reached its finish line.

Filming for the new season kicked off in Sudeikis’s hometown of Kansas City, Missouri, before additional production moved to London, giving the show a slightly different backdrop than fans are used to seeing. Early promotional images have shown Ted reconnecting with Rebecca in front of the Richmond jet, along with glimpses of him coaching his new team and reuniting with Henry at a familiar London pub.

With the premiere now less than a month away, this latest photo serves as one more reminder that ‘Ted Lasso’ is truly coming back, and fans are clearly ready to return to Richmond.
