Tenoch Huerta Teases How Namor Really Connects to the Fantastic Four in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Marvel’s ensemble crossovers live and die by their character dynamics, and few upcoming pairings have generated more curiosity than the collision of Namor’s underwater kingdom with the newly introduced Fantastic Four. Fans have spent months speculating about how these very different corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe might actually intersect once the dust settles.

Now, star Tenoch Huerta Mejia is finally offering some clarity. Following Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the actor sat down for a series of interviews and began pulling back the curtain on exactly how his character fits into ‘Avengers: Doomsday’s sprawling web of heroes.

According to Huerta, Namor’s connection to the Fantastic Four isn’t built around direct confrontation with every character, but rather a shared, larger stake in the outcome of the film. The actor described the dynamic as one where survival, rather than personal rivalry, drives the characters together despite their differing backgrounds and loyalties.

That framing lines up closely with what Huerta has revealed about Namor’s specific interactions within the group. Speaking to ComicBook.com after the panel, he detailed his character’s first meeting with Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm, describing an immediate spark rooted in mutual respect rather than simple attraction. “This woman who is powerful and is determined, and she says, ‘This is going to happen, this is what we need to do.’ And for him, he’s like, she’s protecting her family, she’s protecting her world, and she’s a leader,” Huerta explained.

That dynamic, according to Huerta, escalates into an actual disagreement between the two characters before they ultimately set their differences aside to face a larger threat together, a detail that mirrors the shared-goal framing he’s offered about the wider ensemble. He also touched on Namor’s evolving relationship with Letitia Wright’s Shuri, whose fraught history with the Atlantean king following the events of ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ appears poised for a complicated new chapter.

Interestingly, Huerta has also confirmed that Namor won’t share any direct scenes with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, the film’s central antagonist. Speaking with Collider, he explained that despite the lack of face-to-face interaction, Doom’s actions still ripple outward and affect every character in the story, including Namor. That absence of direct confrontation with the film’s biggest threat seems to reinforce the idea that survival, not personal vendettas, is what pulls this sprawling cast together.

Huerta has been candid that Namor’s role in ‘Doomsday’ will be comparatively smaller than his star turn in ‘Wakanda Forever,’ describing his part as “simpler” given how many heroes the film needs to balance. Even so, his teased interactions with Sue Storm and Shuri suggest Namor will still carry meaningful emotional weight within the larger story, even without a direct showdown against Doom himself.

The Sue Storm and Namor pairing carries extra weight for longtime comic readers, given the pair’s decades-long history on the page, which has included wartime rivalry and a persistent, complicated attraction that has occasionally tested Sue’s marriage to Reed Richards. Whether the film leans further into that romantic tension or keeps things centered on mutual respect between two powerful leaders remains to be seen, though Huerta’s comments suggest the latter is the current focus.

Doctor Doom, meanwhile, continues to loom over the entire ensemble even in scenes where he never physically appears. Huerta described Doom’s motivations as rooted in personal tragedy, framing the villain’s destructive path as a twisted response to real pain rather than simple villainy for its own sake, a detail that adds context to why so many heroes across different corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe need to unite against him.

With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to unite heroes from across the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and the wider Avengers roster, the film’s success will likely hinge on exactly this kind of connective tissue between characters who’ve never previously crossed paths on screen. Huerta’s comments suggest Marvel is leaning into shared purpose over forced rivalry to make those introductions feel earned.
