Speaking with Empire, Mark Ruffalo revealed that the Hulk will not appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ The actor did leave the door open for a future appearance, telling the outlet he would happily return as long as they keep finding cool things to do with Hulk.

Ruffalo was among the most noteworthy absentees when last March’s sprawling ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ casting announcement dropped, despite seeming like an obvious lock for the project. The bigger question now shifts to ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ the direct follow up to ‘Doomsday.’ The Russo Brothers are expected to begin shooting that film in the United Kingdom later this year, which many see as the logical place for Ruffalo’s Hulk to reenter the fold, though Marvel Studios has not yet confirmed it in a formal casting announcement.

There is also plenty of speculation swirling around how crowded the Hulk mythology has become on screen. The MCU currently has multiple gamma powered characters in play, including a Red Hulk who remains alive in The Raft, along with an Abomination and the looming presence of the Leader, raising the possibility of a much larger green powered showdown somewhere down the line.
