The Actor Aubrey Plaza Considers Her Number One
Aubrey Plaza has been busy expanding her career over the last few years, not just as an actress but also as a producer on projects like Emily the Criminal and Spin Me Round. She really caught the spotlight, though, with her role in the second season of the hit series The White Lotus.
That performance showed she can handle both sharp comedy and intense drama with ease. Plaza is a true student of film. She draws inspiration from all kinds of movies, from different eras and genres.
When it comes to the legends of old Hollywood, she has one favorite that stands above the rest. Plaza has a deep admiration for the iconic Judy Garland. During an interview with the Academy Awards’ publication A.frame, she was asked to list her five favorite films and immediately mentioned a Garland classic.
“Judy Garland is my number one, and the 1954 version of that movie — with Judy and James Mason — is one of my all-time favourite movies ever,” Plaza said. That film, A Star Is Born, tells a timeless story about ambition, love, and the cost of fame.
For Plaza, her connection to Garland started early. “Becoming obsessed with Judy at a young age and doing a real deep dive into all of her films in my formative years had a really big impact on me,” she explained.
Garland, who became famous as a child in The Wizard of Oz, remains one of the most talented performers in American film history. Despite a life full of challenges, Plaza considers her an absolute treasure. “I continue to think that she’s one of the most talented people that’s ever come out of this country,” she added.
Plaza credits A Star Is Born with inspiring her to become an actor. “A Star Is Born is one of the movies that made me want to be an actor from a young age,” she admitted. It’s clear that Garland’s work had a lasting influence on her career and creative outlook.
Looking ahead, Plaza continues to take on a variety of projects. She will star in and executive-produce the adult animated series Kevin, which is set to premiere on Prime Video on April 20. She voices a housecat navigating life after his owners split up, alongside Jason Schwartzman and Whoopi Goldberg.
Plaza is also working on several ambitious film projects, including a planned biopic where she will play the infamous Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss. Beyond acting and producing, she stays active in the fashion world and was recently spotted at Paris Fashion Week.
With her production company developing new stories, fans can expect to see more of her creative vision on screen in the coming years. Aubrey Plaza’s career shows a mix of fearless acting, thoughtful production work, and a deep love for cinema, with inspirations like Judy Garland continuing to guide her choices.
