Amazon has secured the rights to Collision, according to Deadline, a short novel from Don Winslow’s upcoming collection The Final Score. This deal was highly competitive, with several bidders, but Amazon won. Jake Gyllenhaal will star in the adaptation and also produce it alongside his Nine Stories partner Josh McLaughlin and Shane Salerno from The Story Factory.

Collision tells the story of a devoted husband and father who makes a serious mistake that lands him in prison. While behind bars, he has to learn how to survive. But the story doesn’t end there. When he gets out, he discovers why he was protected in prison and is sent on a mission that changes his life forever.

This project marks a reunion between Winslow and Amazon. The streaming service, along with Working Title, is also releasing Crime 101, a film based on another of Winslow’s short stories, scheduled for President’s Day weekend in 2026.

That movie is written and directed by Bart Layton and stars big names like Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry, and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Jake Gyllenhaal recently worked with Amazon on Road House, directed by Doug Liman. The film broke records on Prime Video, with over 50 million viewers during its first two weekends.

Following that success, Amazon MGM Studios signed a first-look deal with Gyllenhaal’s production company, Nine Stories. Guy Ritchie is currently directing Road House 2, with Gyllenhaal returning as star and producer.

The Final Score is the title story of the collection and is expected to be offered to buyers after the July 4th holiday.

Stephen King tweeted to his 7 million followers on X that Winslow’s collection is “the best crime fiction I’ve read in twenty years.” His praise caused a spike in sales. The book will be published by HarperCollins on September 17.

Gyllenhaal is no stranger to producing. After executive producing and starring in Apple’s Presumed Innocent, which became one of the platform’s most-watched dramas, he is set to executive produce a second season. Gyllenhaal has also recently appeared on Broadway in Othello alongside Denzel Washington. Over his career, he has earned three Golden Globe nominations and three Tony nominations as both an actor and producer.

Don Winslow is a celebrated writer with many awards worldwide. His work has attracted interest from top filmmakers and actors such as Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Mann, Ridley Scott, and others.
