The popular Amazon Prime series The Boys has officially finished filming its fifth and final season. Fans are still waiting to hear the release date, but the cast has been sharing plenty of hints and fun moments lately. One special moment stood out as the cast took a trip down memory lane.

The original main group, Jack Quaid, Karl Urban, Karen Fukuhara, Laz Alonso, and Tomer Capone, got together to recreate a famous photo from the very first season. This nostalgic gesture was shared by Discussing Film and gave fans a full-circle feeling.

The Boys, based on the comic books by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, was developed for TV by Eric Kripke. The show is produced by Sony Pictures Television along with several other companies, including Point Grey Pictures and Kripke Enterprises.

The final season will bring back many familiar faces like Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Antony Starr as Homelander, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, and Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, who returns as a series regular.

The show’s renewal for a fifth season was announced in May 2024, and just a month later, Kripke revealed that this would be the last season. On Twitter, he said, “#TheBoys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season! … Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax.”

Kripke explained that he always planned for five seasons, and the story’s ending means there’s no way the show would continue past this point. He described the final season as “the show’s version of the apocalypse.”

Kripke also shared some insights about the story’s ending with Deadline Hollywood, saying he already knows the final moments and where the characters will be six months later. He said, “When we’re up there shooting and when we really wrap for that last time, that’s gonna be a mess.” This hints at an emotional and intense finish for the series.

Fans can expect a lot of action and big moments, especially with Jensen Ackles’s Soldier Boy returning in a major role. Kripke teased at San Diego Comic-Con that Soldier Boy would be involved a lot in the last season and that there will be “a lot of good father-son emotion” between him and Homelander. He also mentioned the final season will be “really, like, epic.”

Filming for the fifth season began in late November 2024 and continued through mid-2025. Jensen Ackles finished filming on June 10, 2025, and the entire cast wrapped production by July 1, 2025. Some leaked photos during filming showed new intense scenes, including internment camps under Homelander’s orders.

The fifth season will also include parts inspired by the spinoff show Gen V, adding even more depth to the story.

While the release date is still under wraps, The Boys fans can look forward to an exciting and dramatic final chapter. The cast’s recent photo recreation shows how close they’ve become and how meaningful this journey has been for everyone involved.
